2-Minute Review - Final Fantasy: Dissidia (PSP Review)
Like a fresh bowl of chicken two-minute noodles, today's tasty review is a quick and easy treat that may or may not make you feel a little ill afterwards. Matt Keller has prepared this easy-to-digest snack, turning his critical gaze towards a franchise that is renowned for its devoted audience.

Popular series like Final Fantasy tend to generate a “special” kind of fan that loves to dream about battles between their favourite characters. Dissidia: Final Fantasy is built around fulfilling these crazy fanboy fantasies, and if the game’s amazing visuals, lightning fast battles and RPG-like elements don’t grab you, then the ability to beat the snot out of Tidus surely will.

Surely they will understand that Batman, Cloud and Mitsurugi need love too.

Dissidia: Final Fantasy gets an Australian release date
Those of you who have been waiting for a proper, local, English language release of Dissidia: Final Fantasy will be pleased to know that the PSP brawler from Square Enix will slash its way onto retail store shelves on the 3rd of September this year.

The game features hordes of heroes and villains from the Final Fantasy universe and pits them against one another in a "war that threatens to tear the world apart", (as if we didn't need a reasons to pit certain antagonists against certain protagonists just so that we could beat their silly heads in) where the gods of Chaos and Cosmos are in conflict.

Now Playing (9/06/09)
The curse that is E3 is finally lifted, allowing Now Playing to return to the status-quo, meaning that your weekly dose of trailers continues, undisturbed from its restless slumber. Sadly, the file mirror is still reeling with agony from last week's E3 trailers, and game developers and publishers around the world remain been relatively quiet as they nurse their hangovers and whatever traces of Swine Flu they've contracted in Los Angeles. In any case, Now Playing continues.

This week, we've got an important message from the Minionstry of information regarding Overlord II. After being evil, we take a look at C.O.P. The Recruit, a new open world action game for the Nintendo DS. Next, we check out some online super heroes in DC Universe Online, who promptly get their backsides destroyed by the many characters of Dissidia: Final Fantasy. Finally, we get to engage in some Pyschokinetic Wars.

And still they come - today we get to find out what Square Enix will be showing off at E3 - and while there's a whole bunch of Final Fantasy in there, and the new Kingdom Hearts, they've snuck a couple of new releases in there too: Nier and Front Mission Evolved, which will be revealed further in the coming days.

This year, they're promising to highlight the steps the publisher has taken in becoming a "more global entertainment company" - featuring games created in partnership with US and European developers, as well as their usual high-quality offerings.

Dissidia: Final Fantasy shows off new screens
It seems to be shaping up as quite a good year for the conjunction of PSP owner and Japanese games fanboy. One of the titles sure to separate us from our money is Dissidia: Final Fantasy, an arena-based fighter slightly reminiscent of PSOne title Ergheiz, in that regardless of your appreciation of fighting game mechanics, Square Enix will extract cash from you just so you can enjoy the appearance of Final Fantasy characters. Releasing in all PAL territories in the next two months, here are some pretty new screens to celebrate!

Sony and other publishers announce massive PSP line up for 2009
With recent news that Sony's PlayStation Portable had sold fifty million units world wide, many PSP owners looked in dismay at the release schedules for upcoming games on the platform - after having glanced at their game collection with an enigmatic sigh. While there is a large number of quality software titles on the platform - it is no secret that the console needs more blockbusters.

Today Sony Computer Entertainment, in partnership with third party publishers, have announced a staggering array of new titles for their portable platform, each which will be optimised for the console's portability.

This year, the PSP will see MotorStorm: Arctic Edge, a portable version of Little Big Planet, a game based in the Assassin's Creed universe, and the transition of Rock Band to the platform, along with more support from EA and other publishers on the platform.

Now Playing (02/12/08)
Oh no! Time has flown and I can't even believe it is December already. The last of the huge weeks of releases is here and it is the last chance for publishers to get their trailers out before the masses head to do their Christmas shopping.

This week we are heading back to Persia in time for the games release. One of my Final Fantasies comes back in a new game. There is a Storm rising over Project Origin and games considering this their Alpha Protocol. Lastly we get a little Roco in a crazy sequel.

First gameplay trailer in new Final Fantasy title
It's pretty difficult to form an opinion on an unreleased game from a pair of trailers, neither of which is in a language I have mastered beyond basic survival, but with this particular little piece of deliciousness, I don't need to form an opinion. Regardless of my opinion, regardless of anybody's opinion, Final Fantasy: Dissidia is going to sell like hotcakes. So, without further ado or commentary, here is the first all-gameplay trailer for your excited perusal:
