Damnation development team fired
So, Damnation! Wasn't that awesome? Umm, actually, I haven't gotten around to it yet, and apparently I am not alone. The shooter with the "climb everything" claim to fame performed quite poorly at retail, which has been very bad news for developers Blue Omega - and didn't do any better with critics. Not that even universal applause would compensate Blue Omega for the lack of profit, or be likely to sway them from their recent decision to sack the entire development team of the beleaguered shooter.

Now Playing (19/05/09)
Welcome to the latest instalment of Now Playing, where a bitter newsbot watches every trailer added to the file mirror in the previous week, (So you don't have to!) and then presents some ranting and raving about why game trailers just aren't as good as they used to be (except in a few isolated cases).

This week, we find some treasures in the real world, before going to war with a commando who happens to be Bionic. After that, we travel further into the future, in a bid to fight in-game on rails action sequences from destroying the world. Then, we contest the very sacred definition of "Epic", before meeting a damn villain.

Saboteur updates with explosive new screens, sneaky fact sheet
Saboteur, Saboteur... Wait, wasn't that the "other" upcoming title from Pandemic, which got kind of overlooked in all the Mercenaries 2 and Lord of the Rings: Conquest hype? Oh, dear - whatever happened to that, and given the rather apathetic reception both of those titles received, do we care? Well, EA are hoping we do, and have sent along a nice little fact sheet and a bunch of pretty new screens and concept artworks to try and reel back our possibly flagging interest - and much to my surprise, they just might succeed!

Damnation - the voices in my head didn't expect this new trailer
Attentive readers will note that yesterday's trailer for Damnation was accompanied with some brief speculation regarding the next trailer for the game, which contrary to the nagging voices in the head of this News Bot, has arrived today.

Today's trailer for the title is "All About the Moves", with a discussion regarding the ... you guessed it, moves available to the player as they move through the vertical, steampunk inspired canyons and environments of Damnation.

Damnation's Steampunk influences discussed in new trailer
Mix steam punk, vertical, high flying level designs, and give the player complete freedom, and you come up with Damnation a soon-to-be released third person shooter for the PC, PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 from Codemasters and Blue Omega Entertainment.

The use of steam punk in games is an area that hasn't yet been done-to-death like World War II, and the choice to use it as a backdrop and influence for Damnation is discussed by Adam Diller, Art Director of the title, in this shiny steamy new trailer. A number of vehicles, weapons and other objects are shown in the new trailer, which offers yet another sneak-peek to the game.

Damnnation - new trailer and release date unveiled
When it was announced at E3 last year, Damnnation, an all-new-shooter from Codemasters promised to not be just another damn shooter, because it would introduce a new element not often seen in shooters - verticality.

Allowing the player complete freedom to move through all three dimensions obviously posed some design issues to the development team. Firstly, all three axis would need to be represented as gameplay design elements, the x,y and z, and this would need to be conducted right from the get-go - how was this achieved? It's all explained in this new trailer that focuses on the level design of the game, which is due to be released, in Australia, on the 28th of May.

Now Playing (12/08/08)
Everywhere at the moment there is one event being covered and while I've been sitting at the TV cheering for whoever is on, some people might like to avoid that topic for at least a minute. Fear not readers! I avoided all trailers and even the word about said event. So you can come in, relax and see what games have poked our interests this week.

This week we look at some clones swimming in a nation of dams. I find one of my favourite metallic games gets a new trailer that will see it rise above ancient times. We also see what the highway brothers are up to and hope they aren't the nice guys that finish last.

Damnation - a shooter promising not to be another damn shooter
While E3 is long over, there is still a bunch of press releases popping up here and there in its aftermath. One such release concerns Damnation from Codemasters which promises to 'evolve the shooter genre'.

"How can that be done?", you might muse... apparently 'going vertical' (and perhaps not having a WW2 setting) might be the way. We've got all the information from E3 regarding Damnation, including a fact sheet and some new screenshots.
