The last week of March is upon us, which means the flow of new video game releases is going to slow to a trickle over the next couple of weeks, though we’ve got a few promising games due throughout April. The game publishers of the world are intent on giving March a good send off with Resistance Retribution for the PSP, The Wheelman for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, MadWorld for the Wii and Puzzle Quest: Galactrix for the PC and DS headlining this week’s new releases.
Don’t forget to check out the full release schedule for the latest changes and information on upcoming games.

What will you remember 2008 for, in terms of gaming?
We asked some of the game admins and network staff to find out their thoughts, but here's a quick recap of the past 12 months, to refresh your memory.
Non-games dominated this year's charts, with Wii Fit rewarding gamers for standing still. As a country, we were still fans of the music game genre too, finally getting our hands on Rock Band, which seemed to have been pushed onto shelves by the release of Guitar Hero: World Tour a week later. Who knows, the full-band version may even have healed some hurt caused by the "interesting" yet awkward Guitar Hero: On Tour release for DS. There was a new Call of Duty to heed, a new Bond to meet, Marcus and Dom were back, and independent developers twisted our brains with Braid and our rhythm skills with Audiosurf. Red Alert was back, and we revisited the Midnight Club. We also saw the release of the "Three Fs" - Far Cry 2, Fable 2, and Fallout 3, meaning many gamers were a bit strapped for cash by the end of the year.
...and, who could forget? 2008 is the year we met Sackboy!

As we watch 2008 log off and 2009 jump into gear, we are looking back at some of our highlights for all the fantastic games released this year. It wasn't easy and with so many big titles and great games coming out there was much debate in the Newsbot den as to what game should take out the Games on Net 2008 Awards.
What will be labelled the top games in the consoles? Which was our favourite PC hit? What other awards do we have to give out? All will be explained inside as we round up the year by letting you guys know what we did and didn't like.

With Christmas rapidly approaching, The Warp Pipe is calling time for 2008. After 45 columns without a break this year, I’m clocking off a little early to read a few books, watch some movies, replay some of 2008’s best games and of course, fly to Queensland to spend Christmas with the family. The Warp Pipe will be back on the 18th of January with a few minor tweaks and a couple of bold predictions for 2009.
Speaking of bold proclamations, The Warp Pipe made a few just before the start of the second, third and final quarters of the year. I thought we’d use the final column of the year evaluating my ability to predict the quality of soon-to-be-released video games.

We've already spent time with one big Russian today, why not continue the trend... EA have just released a handful of videos for their new boxing title FaceBreaker, introducing each of the characters with an innovative 'audition' style.
The first one introduces fighters Molotov, Voodoo and Steve, while the second features characters trying out for the role of Socks, and the third includes former DJ Spin and the very special Brick.

It's not every day that we get asked if we "Want to break some faces?" ...but with the impending release of the FaceBreaker demo, I guess we shouldn't be surprised. Coming to Xbox Live August 1st (that's today!) and arriving on the PlayStation Network August 8th (next Friday), you'll be able to try out a sample of the fast-paced gameplay, and - perhaps more excitingly - try out the game's custom face generator.
Putting the "Face" into "FaceBreaker", the new Photo Game Face option will bring a personal touch to the game - allowing fighters to create a cartoon likeness of themselves, which they can then bring into the ring when the full game launches in September.

Mid-year sales tend to be pretty awful, but one particular Australian retailer was running out a lot of stock for around the $5 mark, mainly on the PC, PS2, DS and Xbox 360. Needless to say, this week, I came home a couple of hundred dollars poorer and weighed down by bags of games, yet could not find many of the titles I wanted due to the store having been raided by people buying up multiple copies of the one game to trade or sell on eBay. Such is life. I'm still trying to wrestle my way through Alone in the Dark on the Xbox 360, a game with some stunning ideas, but absolutely horrendous controls and far too many bugs and glitches.
This week, The Warp Pipe will look at the current Q3 release list, gauging the perceived level of hype and giving a brief impression as to the quality of each game.

Another week is upon us and more fantastic videos and trailers have graced our glowing screens. As usual, despite the temporary change in day, this Wednesday Matinee Edition of Now Playing brings you a selection of those videos from our massive, and ever-growing, file library - and we also find out another one of the Internode Games Network admin's favourite all-time trailers!
This week we head to a post-apocalyptic world on the verge of collapse, where we Undiscovered a new trailer for an upcoming RPG - that's if we can make it through all the haze and ice on our way to a new age of what makes us only human.

Love 'em or hate 'em, you can't deny they're giants of the industry. EA have been swimming around in their money-filled pools since the eighties, combining independent developer, publisher and distributor into one big super label and several sub-labels. They seem to own practically everything and if they don't, they usually make money out of it somewhere through distribution.

With the release of a certain game today I'm sure you are all sitting at home and wanting to check out some new trailers of up coming releases... right? Oh well, I'm sure the rest of us will enjoy them and the newest addition to Now Playing, All-Time Favourites.
This week I have a new type of trailer, we break some faces and we check out the latest fashion. Some troops let us in on their survival guide that might just help us on a conspiracy and Gary Busey lets us meet his new friends.

While most games these days tend to be limiting the level of violence, EA's Facebreaker is running madly in the opposite direction, bringing wanton destruction and good old-fashioned pain back to video games.
We still don't have too many details about the game, other than the fact it'll be coming to PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii, but we do have a new video to share with you. If you've ever wanted to know what makes a bloke (or a lady) want to punch someone, I advise you to check it out.

Looks like EA have stepped back a bit from their ultra-serious role with their realistic sports games and their highly-detailed shooters. They unveiled the new cartoon-look Battlefield Heroes last week, and now it looks like they're tackling boxing, with the announcement of FaceBreaker, for PS3, Wii and Xbox 360.
Created by the people behind Fight Night Round 3, FaceBreaker looks like a new direction - a fun and irreverent look at the sport, with immersive gameplay and "eye-popping" graphics. While boxers may be more typically associated with ear-biting, this one should be interesting.
