Australian Weekly Video Game Charts - Week Ending 11/01/09
Ever wondered just what the Australian gaming public are buying? We've got the latest charts for you that will give you all the details you need to know, for all the major platforms.

So - if you needed to know that as a nation, we're still very interested in just what the Wii can do, to the point that a tech demo is the best selling 'game' for another week. There's a handful of PC gamers that struggled to keep the world at war and on top of a chart full of simulated people, while the Xbox 360 is dominated by sequels and the return of Dom and Marcus. The PS3 suffers under a second Chimera attack, but the PS2 and PSP are still racing around undercover. Finally, the DS would like to get away from it all, and escape - perhaps to Africa?

Australian Weekly Video Game Charts - Week Ending 28/12/08
Here are the new charts, same as the old charts. Technically, this is the last chart for 2008, but it doesn't really hold m/any surprises. The DS charts in particular are swamped by games that you can only imagine are Christmas presents for the kids, and the Wii is topped by a cheaper title that people are picking up as something to go with the console. The top 10 is a fair representation of what we like - console games dominate (Wii taking out six spots!), and there is a more casual tone to proceedings, with only two 'serious' games in the list.

Put simply - we are a nation of Wii gamers fixated on a game that is essentially a glorified tech demo! PC gamers were otherwise occupied, trekking through a world at war. The Xbox 360 fans were still hanging out with Marcus, Dom and the Locusts, and the PS3 was overrun by Chimera once again. Their PS2 brothers were rockin' out to the third generation of heroic guitarists, the DS was still being used as a tool for cranial exercise, and the PSP was once more speeding, undercover.

Australian Weekly Video Game Charts - Week Ending 07/12/08
Time for this week's charts - and it looks like people are pretty set in their ways, buying the same things for Christmas this week as they did last week. There's been a few slight changes, but overall, it's the same titles that we saw last time around.

To explain further - gamers are preparing themselves for the holiday season by getting in early with some motion-sensitive fitness equipment, while the PC fans are paying attention to duty's call, in a new world. The 360 is still revving their chainsaws (3 million-strong, we hear last week), and the PS3 still enjoys a second dose of resistance. The PS2 has been thrown to the ground and wrestled yet again, while the DS has headed to the Olympics with some familiar friends and the PSP remains speeding, undercover.

Australian Weekly Video Game Charts - Week Ending 30/11/08
The Australian Weekly Video Game Charts have recovered pretty swiftly from last week's 70's singalong attack, with an playful motion-sensing favourite popping right back up into top spot. The PS2 is still languishing a few decades behind, but at least the rest of the charts are back to 'normal'.

Looking around, there's been a changing of the guard in the PC side of things, now hearing a Call of Duty (and no original best-selling MMO to be seen!). The Xbox 360 is still revving their chainsaws, and PS3 experiences yet another resistance. The DS gamers are still working on getting smarter by playing games, and the PSP feels the need - the need to go undercover. Ha.

[iDEF] Welcome to eGames 2008!
We're here in sunny(ish) Melbourne for this year's eGames Expo. Now in its third year, organiser Peter Barlow says the event has taken the "next step" in becoming what had been planned from the outset.

eGames is no longer a standalone event, as it now forms half of something bigger - iDEF, the International Digital Entertainment Festival, a new innovation that takes the gamer elements of eGames and pairs it with the techy goodness of the new Digital Lifestyle Show, which takes place in the same pavillion.

Motorstorm: Pacific Rift - A turbulent new trailer
Many Playstation 3 release titles have the release of their sequels imminent. Of these, the racing title Motorstorm: Pacific Rift has received little attention, overshadowed somewhat by Resistance 2.

Today, we've got a shiny new trailer from Motorstorm: Pacific Rift, which is both a teaser to fans of the original title, and something to spark the interest of those who've not played it.

The Warp Pipe - 21/09/08
The Holiday flood begins this Thursday with the release of an ungodly amount of games, including Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway, Crysis Warhead and Wipeout HD, and doesn’t stop until the week before Christmas. To save you all a bit of time, I like to run through the release list at the start of a given quarter, and make sweeping generalisations as to the quality of upcoming games.

Last week’s Warp Pipe covered the games of October, so this week we’re looking at November’s big hitters, including Gears of War 2, Left 4 Dead and Mirror’s Edge.

The Warp Pipe - 14/09/08
2008 has been a little different from the standard industry year, in that we’ve seen a lot of major titles released outside of the holiday shopping season. Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Grand Theft Auto IV and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots were all released in the first half of the year. One would think that that might make for a less than stellar holiday line up, but the game publishers of the world (bar Nintendo) are inclined to prove otherwise.

Over the next two weeks (due to the sheer number of releases), The Warp Pipe will be boldly predicting the quality of new games in the next quarter.

We've previously reported speculation that Playstation 3 exclusive Resistance 2 is set for a release at some point in November. Today, a US release date for the title has been announced, with November 4th set as the day of reckoning in that region.

With the announcement of the release date, a collector's edition for Resistance 2 has also been detailed, which will include a number of extras. It is uncertain at this point whether the local release will reflect the US date - and if we will be seeing a collector's edition locally at all.

Resistance: Retribution finds it difficult to resist PSP
While Sony's press conference at E3 this year was quiet, a few new titles popped up to my suprise that I was honestly not expecting. One of these announcements surrounded Resistance: Retribution, a new game for the PSP.

While the PSP (much like the DS, but less so) has suffered from a lack of quality titles, those developed for the console with more care than the average port are genuinely entertaining and unique hand held games.

While any announcements for new PSP titles were light at E3, the unveiling of Resistance: Retribution is sure to make many want to dust off their PSP. We've got a fact sheet from E3, along with some screenshots to share with you all.

The Warp Pipe - 20/07/08
So the 2008 E3 Media and Business Summit has wrapped up. Bitter fanboys are sure to have run out of tears, at least temporarily, while tired journalists are no doubt catching up on some much needed sleep. I have no doubt that many of you have long lists of games you're now salivating over even more than before – better start putting those pennies aside. On the other hand, those of us on the reviewing side of things are currently wondering how on Earth we're going to manage to cover all of the fourth quarter's games without going insane.

This week, we'll reflect on the events that transpired during the three manufacturer press conferences and discuss our thoughts and any potential ramifications, and we'll also look at a few of the best games that were on show.

Now Playing (13/05/08)
With some massive trailers coming out in the last 24 hours, I thought this week would have been a challenge to try and pick out some of the better ones. However when I went over to the file library to see what else was there, it was still jam packed with great videos that now I have too many to choose from.

This week we check out the intro to a blobbing game and the second wave of resistance. We get welcomed into our new company as well as find out what its like to be a ninja the second time round. Then a new mmorpg title that is inline to be released this year. Also we look at what is crying in far away Africa.

Resistance 2 - No resistance as the sequel pushes forward
Resistance 2, the follow up to one of the PS3 exclusive launch titles (yes yes... one of like two, I know) has just been announced with talk of a release date later this year. Resistance: Fall of Man was a hot multiplayer title and don't you think they have forgotten about that. Resistance 2 is set to bring 60 player server for all the fraggin' you can handle.

You follow on from the events in Resistance: Fall of Man with Insomniac Games once again at the helm. Taking off where Nathan Hale left off, you continue through a new campaign, with a totally separate one for the co-op.
