East India Company gets fancy new Designer's Cut

Over at Paradox Interactive, they just don't stop. Where, I can imagine them asking, is the fun in just making and releasing games? Why not fossick through player suggestions, sorting the gold from the dross, and then keep on tinkering with a game?

I'm not sure how the developers feel about having the whip cracked over them constantly, but fans of East India Company will probably be pleased by the announcement of the Designer's Cut update, a free expansion bringing with it a handful of interesting new features.

Coming Attractions - 21/09/2009

Coming Attractions has now moved to Mondays in an effort to bring you more new release information in a more timely, and therefore useful manner. Leading off the week tomorrow (or tonight if you’re into the midnight launch thing) is Halo 3: ODST. That will be followed big time MMO hopeful Aion: Tower of Eternity, grindhouse style ninja action in WET, junk collection action in Katamari Forever and a whole bunch of puzzle solving in Professor Layton and Pandora’s Box.

Who'dathunk, last week, that we'd be celebrating the news that Sam Raimi had been announced as the director of the Warcraft movie? Gamers are all still fascinated by what's been selling (or not) on Steam, and by the 15-minute walkthrough of Mafia 2, narrated by Denby Grace. We also got information that Episodes from Liberty City will be released in October, just after Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.

It was a week packed with more than a few interesting bits and pieces - why not take the time to trip down Memory Lane?

Happy Birthday Paradox Interactive! Ten years dedicated to delivering a wide variety of strategy titles to the PC market is something well worth celebrating. Prior to today I was not certain how a decade of existence was celebrated in Sweden (I would perhaps have hazarded a guess at "cake"), but every day is an education in the gaming world and I now know that the correct method of commemorating such an important occasion is to give a big fat present to everyone else in the form of a 50% discount on all current releases!

There's no point pretending otherwise. When I get East India Company in my eager little grasp, there is going to some seriously shady business taking place. Drawing a distinction between "pirates" and people who rob, exploit, and commit genocide but only on foreigners is arguably splitting hairs anyway, and I'm certain developers put these moral decisions in knowing full well that most gamers will immediately choose the unethical option if it involves better clothes. Now that we've all admitted what we really want to get up to while sailing the high seas, we can examine the attraction of the Pirate Bay pre-order bonus that ensures you begin your East India Company experience exactly how you mean to continue.
