Steam has just been updated. This time, the change list is all but a single line, fixing a pesky crash issue on Windows 2000 and "unpatched" XP. While news of that update can be considered unremarkable, there is some much larger news at hand. Last week after being tipped off by a reader, Jessica reported that several Source powered mods would be distributed through Steam.
Today, the mods have gone live through Steam, meaning there is need to download pesky clients or multiple updates in order to try out what the community have created. If you fire up your Steam client and own any games which use the Source Engine, you'll now be able to download the following mods through the Steam directly: Age of Chivalry, D.I.P.R.I.P. Warm Up, Insurgency, Synergy and Zombie Panic.

While a lot of the news that comes out of Steam is "This game is updated" and "This game is on sale", sometimes they do pull out little gems that really do improve the community.
Like this one - as part of Valve's continuing show of support towards the modding community, they are going to host (selected) mods directly on the Steam servers, starting next week. They're kicking things off with a selection of five, with plenty more to come - and promise that these user-created modifications will be free to anyone who owns any Source game!

It's been a weekend of interesting events in the FPS world. One of those events is the eagerly-awaited release of the new version of the popular Insurgency mod, bringing the title up to 2.1RC.
A total conversion mod for Half-Life 2, INS (as it is commonly known) takes the players to an intense online combat experience based around modern battlefields and infantry combat. The use of tactics and teamwork is encouraged in order to destroy your enemies.
If you want to check this out, we've got the full client right here (664MB), and we're also hosting the updated server files, too. The game is totally free to download and play (if you already have a copy of Half-Life 2), so what are you waiting for?

It's been about a year since we first learned that Robert Ludlum's universe would be turned into a video game. The more we discovered about The Bourne Conspiracy, the more interesting things got - we chatted to developers, sent people to check out preview events, and watched countless videos.
Finally, the game's here - and we've got a bonus for you. Not only has Matt K prepared a review that looks at both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 versions of the game, but we also have the launch trailer for you, in case you missed it.

One of the more successful mod releases of the year was Insurgency, for Half-Life 2. They unveiled their first version of the game back in July, and now - not even six months later, they've just finished work on Beta 2.
Wanna play? We've got the Beta 2.0 Client right here, as well as the server software in case you want to set up your own games. Don't forget though, we're still hosting our own Internode server, so you can play with us!

We let you know it was coming, now it's actually here. The kids behind the Insurgency mod for Half-Life 2 have just released beta patch 1.1, and we've got it for you to download.
It's set to fix all manner of things (check the changelog for details), and the devs would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support of the mod.
Looking at the Steam stats page, it shows that the INS mod is in fact the most-played third-party Source mod on the online service, and it is the sixth-most played game, behind some pretty big names. Not bad for a game that's been out a week!

Earlier today the Half-Life 2 mod Insurgency was released at approx 6am. I just found out that the development team are currently working hard on their first patch that will fix most problems that you're currently getting. Also if you're having issues with team killers, this patch will also take care of them by using a server variable called ins_tkremove. Click read more for patch details.
