Today's 2-Minute review is a rather special one - the first online review of Dead Space Extraction. Last year's Dead Space was a fantastic game, but not as successful as EA had hoped. Now they're giving the series another chance as an on-rails shooter on the Wii - and it just happens to be a rather good one at that.

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles is a strange little beastie, collecting together as it does the plots of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica, which while not sequentially connected, are strongly linked by the series' ongoing plot and pivotal characters. As well as a pleasant update to graphics and controls, the game gives new players a chance to experience two important story lines central to the franchise, or to re-explore familiar events from a fresh perspective.
This "fresh perspective" thing is obviously really striking a chord down at Capcom; how would you also like to experience the plot via the medium of Twitter?

This week is probably one of the more heavily anticipated as far as February game releases go, with the long awaited Halo Wars and Killzone 2 making their debuts on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 respectively. If you’re not up for the gung-ho space marine tomfoolery on offer there, perhaps you should check out Pikmin for the Wii, or become reacquainted with a few classics in the Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection
Don’t forget to check out the full release schedule for the latest changes and information on upcoming games.

2008 has been a little different from the standard industry year, in that we’ve seen a lot of major titles released outside of the holiday shopping season. Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Grand Theft Auto IV and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots were all released in the first half of the year. One would think that that might make for a less than stellar holiday line up, but the game publishers of the world (bar Nintendo) are inclined to prove otherwise.
Over the next two weeks (due to the sheer number of releases), The Warp Pipe will be boldly predicting the quality of new games in the next quarter.

For some people, remake is a dirty word. For the most part, we have Hollywood to blame for this, with Gus Van Sant's 1998 remake of Hitchcock's classic Psycho starting a relative flood of bad recreations of older films. In more recent years, this has culminated in the horror remake craze, where just about every slasher film from the late 70s and early 80s has either been remade, or a remake is in pre-production. Remakes are seen by executives as being relatively safe due to audiences' familiarity with the source material.
On the other hand, remakes are not seen in such negative light when it comes to video games. In some cases, limited technology available at the time has limited the creator's vision, or has made a game very hard to revisit or almost unplayable at a later date. In this week's Warp Pipe, I thought we'd spend some time looking at games I'd like to see remade.

It's been a pretty dull couple of weeks at The Warp Pipe, with too much time spent chasing Xbox 360 Achievements (through Thrillville: Off the Rails, Spider-Man 3 and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion) and waiting around for Soulcalibur IV and Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 to be released. Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network look to be heating up over the next couple of weeks – they still don't hold a candle to similar services on the PC, but if this is a sign of things to come, then I am all for it.
This week, I thought we'd pay a visit to the trivia vault to learn another bunch of fun video game facts.

So the 2008 E3 Media and Business Summit has wrapped up. Bitter fanboys are sure to have run out of tears, at least temporarily, while tired journalists are no doubt catching up on some much needed sleep. I have no doubt that many of you have long lists of games you're now salivating over even more than before – better start putting those pennies aside. On the other hand, those of us on the reviewing side of things are currently wondering how on Earth we're going to manage to cover all of the fourth quarter's games without going insane.
This week, we'll reflect on the events that transpired during the three manufacturer press conferences and discuss our thoughts and any potential ramifications, and we'll also look at a few of the best games that were on show.

It's weird to think of a zombie invasion as an anticipated event, but we've been waiting for Resident Evil 5 for way too long. The silence from Capcom has been as chilling as any too-quiet-and-well-lit-window-lined corridor. Thankfully, after several months of inactivity we have some new information on the latest installment in the iconic survival horror series.
The series returns to its roots in one way, as Chris Redfield, one of the original protagonists, steps up to the plate to track down a bioterrorism threat in Africa. This little bit of recycling worried me; after 34 million sales since the original Resident Evil in 1996, you'd think Capcom would be scratching their heads to come up with anything new, especially after the major success of Resident Evil 4. Luckily, it seems Capcom veterans and co-producers Jun Takeuchi and Masachika Kawata have scraped something off the bottom of the barrel.

Easter has passed us by, and I'm sure many of you had a good time gorging yourselves on chocolate. The Warp Pipe spent its holiday nestled up to a copy of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, with a few hours dedicated to attaining that all important 100% in Bully: Scholarship Edition. It has been a busy week for gaming here, actually; I think I managed about 3,000 new achievement points since the return of my 360 (which pushed me into the top 100 Australians on MyGamerCard), I pushed my way through the majority of Smash Bros' single player modes and I've been reading Steven Kent's The Ultimate History of Video Games, which I'll talk about more in a later column.
This week I thought we'd do something a little different: spurt out some interesting facts, insightful thoughts and bold proclamations. As promised last week, we'll look at one of Shiny's most underappreciated efforts in Sacrifice, and throw our cheap gaming buddies a bone with the Gothic Universe collection.

Since last week's charts, I have since learned that those three events did not hail the impending apocalypse. Simply put, Resistance: Fall of Man was bundled with the PS3, so wasn't counted, and this is the time of year when most major department stores hold toy sales. Apparently the DS is a 'toy', so there were plenty of games being sold at discount prices.
This week's charts seem a bit more sensible, a pair of pocket monsters split by some shape-shifting robots at the top of the overall charts, simulated people not holding quite the monopoly over PC, Xbox 360 and PS2 gamers liking more than meets the eye, PS3 preferring fast cars, and Wii still being a bit Evil.

Observe: Resistance: Fall of Man has disappeared. Totally. After being #1 PS3 title almost since launch, it has now slipped below the waves.
Also: The Nintendo DS has six titles in the top ten, which is deserved, but somewhat unusual.
Finally: It seems the real world is soon to be overtaken by Sims, with the franchise taking out eight of the top ten PC spots.
I believe these three details combined are, in fact, a biblical sign of the Apocalypse.

It's been officially announced that Resident Evil will make an appearance on the Wii. What Capcom are doing is releasing Resident Evil 4 as a customized version just for the Wii. So they are adjusting the game for use with the Wii remote and nunchuck controllers as well as adding some extra content to change it from the GameCube version. It will receive all of the extra content made available for the PS2 and also the customized Widescreen mode which was missing from the GameCube version. You can download the official trailer here.

Is it possible that the Wii could be the most successful console Nintendo have produced? Who would have thought after the moderate reception the GameCube received that Nintendo could come back with a killer console? The reason for this is due to the successful implementation of the WiiMote and Nunchuck controllers. Nintendo have been a company who traditionally were prepared to take risks in order to develop and incorporate new technology in to their consoles. Anyone familiar with the Virtual Reality handheld console Nintendo released called the Virtual Boy? This console wasn't successful either, but Nintendo were prepared to take a risk and develop technology which others wouldn't touch.
