The Warp Pipe - 14/09/08
2008 has been a little different from the standard industry year, in that we’ve seen a lot of major titles released outside of the holiday shopping season. Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Grand Theft Auto IV and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots were all released in the first half of the year. One would think that that might make for a less than stellar holiday line up, but the game publishers of the world (bar Nintendo) are inclined to prove otherwise.

Over the next two weeks (due to the sheer number of releases), The Warp Pipe will be boldly predicting the quality of new games in the next quarter.

EA - Bringing fun (and better work practices) back
Around here, when you think Electronic Arts, you think of all the fun and excitement that comes with the Battlefield franchise. Alternatively, you might think of The Sims, or the neverending stream of annual sports games they churn out. They're also known for not being great employers, as was exposed during the "EA Spouse" fiasco a couple of years ago (an anonymous letter on a website calling EA out for - among other things - employees working long hours (9am-10pm, 7 days a week) for no flex / overtime).

...but all of that's about to change (apparently). Alain Tascan, the general manager of EA Montreal, has recently spoken out about the new directives coming out of his company.
(By the way, Tascan is the guy who stated Gears of War "brought nothing in terms of innovation to the shooter".)
