A lot of games sell themselves by promising to deliver the technology of tomorrow - today! SingStar, on the other hand, has just earned a big round of applause from party-game addicts by delivering the technology of, um, today - after a significant delay. Perhaps in response to criticism, perhaps because the release of Microsoft's challenger, Lips, has broken the complacent mood over at Sony, the PS3 edition of SingStar will see a much needed update this April with the release of wireless microphones.

The Holiday flood begins this Thursday with the release of an ungodly amount of games, including Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway, Crysis Warhead and Wipeout HD, and doesn’t stop until the week before Christmas. To save you all a bit of time, I like to run through the release list at the start of a given quarter, and make sweeping generalisations as to the quality of upcoming games.
Last week’s Warp Pipe covered the games of October, so this week we’re looking at November’s big hitters, including Gears of War 2, Left 4 Dead and Mirror’s Edge.

Apparently, another week's gone by already and we've got another set of Australian Weekly Video Game Charts to share with you. Some things have changed, some have stayed the same, and it is - as always - an interesting little snapshot of what we, as a country, are doing with our consoles.
To start things off, it seems that the Australian public got back on the fitness bandwagon just before the Olympics exploded onto our screens, with the top selling "game" being a little title from Nintendo that rewards you for standing still and having perfect posture. The PC is still visited by the second incarnation of their simulated pals, while the Xbox 360 and PS3 have been ravaged by a new fighty title of very high calibre. PS2 gamers are still having a very vocal party, the DS is at the Olympics with a hedgehog and a plumber, and the PSP hangs out with a robotic secret agent. Phew!

I'm waiting for confirmation on a few other exciting bits and pieces this morning - but in the meantime, we have another exciting episode of... the Australian Weekly Video Game Charts! Yay! Let's see what our fellow gamers were buying in the week ending July 27th... and they're mainly Nintendo fans this week. The top 10 has six motion-sensing titles, three DS games and one poor little PS2 in the middle.
We're mere hours away from the start of the Olympic games, and it seems that a plumber and a hedgehog are getting in early, with some handheld action. The PC has again been overrun by simulated people while the Xbox 360 and PS3 languish in Liberty City. The Wii itself is a bit blocky in outer space, the PS2 is having a singing party, and the PSP is working on its robotic spy skills.

So the 2008 E3 Media and Business Summit has wrapped up. Bitter fanboys are sure to have run out of tears, at least temporarily, while tired journalists are no doubt catching up on some much needed sleep. I have no doubt that many of you have long lists of games you're now salivating over even more than before – better start putting those pennies aside. On the other hand, those of us on the reviewing side of things are currently wondering how on Earth we're going to manage to cover all of the fourth quarter's games without going insane.
This week, we'll reflect on the events that transpired during the three manufacturer press conferences and discuss our thoughts and any potential ramifications, and we'll also look at a few of the best games that were on show.

Ah, back to reality with the solid tradition of the charts post. After spending a week concentrating on games that are yet to arrive on these shores, it's refreshing to note that people are still buying - and enjoying - games that were announced at last year's E3 - or even before!
This week, everybody is playing one of the highlights of last year's summit, with the Wii taking a brawling top spot. The PC is off buying more simulated flat pack furniture, Xbox 360 and PS3 are still lounging in Liberty City and the PS2 is having a party with lots of singing. While the DS has revisted Professor Kawashima, the PSP remains trapped in a final, fantastic, crisis!

Looking at this week's charts, I can't help but wonder if the recent spate of toy sales around the country have impacted on what's being bought. Things have changed considerably since last week, with the DS and Wii very prominent in the overall charts, and EA's person-simulator wreaking havoc on the PC side of things. Do you have any ideas why this could be?
To recap, this week sees Australian gamers again behind a little motion-sensitive wheel, with a plumber. The PC's hanging out with its simulated friends, while both Xbox 360 and PS3 have returned to Liberty City after a short break. The PS2 is singing up a storm at a party, with the DS providing some musically educational accompaniment, and the PSP is stuck in its final, critical, fantasy.

Well folks, the slide has started. The game that snagged the record for Highest Revenue Generated by an Entertainment Product in 24 Hours is less exciting than a collection of minigames that are designed to show off a controller, if the latest charts re to be believed. They also suggest that while realism and violence are fun, it's more fun to be a cartoon and throw turtle shells at each other.
In the charts this week, Australians are still flocking in massive numbers to buy a game that rewards you for standing perfectly still, PC gamers are dedicating a lot of their time to adventures in Hyboria, PS3 and Xbox 360 prefer to hang out in Liberty City, the PS2 is singing along with some party hits, the DS has returned to a tuneful high school (again), and the PSP... well, it's still spending too much time with Kratos. C'mon, portable Sony gamers! Buy something else!

Until I saw the date this morning, I hadn't realised that this weekend was Australia Day - and we get a bonus day off on Monday! Yay! ...we'll ignore the fact that the gaming world doesn't sleep - let alone take days off - so I'll be here on Monday writing away to bring you all the latest news... but the rest of you can enjoy your time off. Got any plans?
Meanwhile... a hedgehog and a plumber are picking up this week's gold medal yet again, while the PC and Xbox 360 gamers among you are still heeding a dutiful call. PS2 fans are gettin' down with some karaoke rhythm and blues, a bit more modern than their PS3 brethren, who are stealthing around the Dark Ages. Finally, no matter what handheld you prefer, the majority of you are into an animated yellow family. Who knew?

They took some time out over Christmas, but we have the first of the weekly Australian game sales charts for the year... although after having a quick look over them, they're not really the herald of good news. Looks like the holiday season did something very strange to our buying habits - but I don't hear Nintendo complaining!
This week, we give gold medals to a plumber and a hedgehog, can hardly hear for the call of duty echoing around PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 battlefields, are busily getting more exercise for our grey matter on DS, and the PSP is wrestlin' everything in sight. In sadder news, apparently everybody who owns a PS2 was given a karaoke game for Christmas, and spent the post-holiday sales picking up expansions.

I think I'm glad the eGames & Entertainment Expo is only on once a year - we were only there for two days this time around and I'm still having trouble getting my head around it all!
Building on last year's roots, this year's Expo promised to be bigger and better than before - and from what we saw, it delivered. With big titles such as Crysis, Assassin's Creed, Haze and Mass Effect on show (the official number was 50 new titles either displayed or playable), plus large stalls from Sony and Nintendo, this was a great way to show off just what's around (or coming soon) in the games industry.

It's party time! Viewer feedback was very positive towards more reviews, so this week holds a massive 6! We'll be checking out some games of the more social variety - some are just cashing in on the party craze, and some will be classics.
Games featured include: Call of Duty 4 plus a reviews of upcoming party games - The Carnival, Buzz: The Hollywood Quiz, Viva Pinata: Party Animals, the latest Singstar, and of course, Guitar Hero 3!
Lux checks out how games might be used to influence people, and there's a new Quarter-circle A to watch, too. All on ABC2 tonight at 8:30, or available online from www.abc.net.au/goodgame (free for Internode customers!).

Following the theme of announcing track lists, I have in my hot little hands the collection of songs that - by their powers combined - make up SingStar Rock Ballads, the latest title in the SingStar franchise.
While there are some gems here - and it's the perfect addition to anyone's tragic karaoke collection, I'm not sure how much the, uh, "younger generation" will appreciate this here selection. Air Supply, anyone?
...meanwhile, SingStar '90s hits shelves this month - better start practising your Aqua!

It's been a long wait but we're less than a month away, 27 days to be exact, for the release of Sony's latest attempt at grabbing a slice of the local entertainment pie with Sony last Thursday officially unveiling the Playstation 3 in front of a mixed crowd of media and business partners.
Extolling the virtues of the console in front of a large audience, local chief of Sony Computer Entertainment Michael Ephraim ran through Sony's established strengths and what the new console will mean to the gaming sector in general, particularly it's inherit potential as an all-purpose multimedia hub within the home environment, as well as lightly covering some of the console's more technical features.

Looking for a last minute present for someone you would rather not see for a while, what better then a computer game to do this. To avoid them for a week or two you could go with WWE Smackdown Vs Raw 07 or if they are more into the Sims The Sims 2: Pets, The Sims 2: Family Fun Stuff or simply The Sims 2. However if you really don't like them and never want to see them again there is always World of Warcraft.
On another note Chienne just had my limited edition World of Warcraft cell shading framed for me for Christmas so mad props to her.
This weeks charts are all about beating people up with WWE Smackdown Vs Raw 07 topping the charts and everyone wanting to beat people up who are singing the Singstar badly.
