Guitar Hero World Record Attempt

What it might look like
This Saturday at 10am, South East England’s sleepy Aylesbury county will be awoken… by rock. Stars Bar and Café is set to play host to a Guinness World Record attempt that involves a 24-hour continuous Guitar Hero session and a man just crazy enough to do it. Spinal Tap would be proud, because this? This goes to 11.

Insanity is often in aid of a good cause, and said good cause is raising funds for the National Spinal Injuries Centre at Stoke Mandeville. 26-year old local writer Zeke Iddon will be battling sleep deprivation, repetitive strain injury, and gaming ennui as he swings his plastic ax.

“I’d love to try and push it beyond the 30-hour mark. But whether I can physically cope with staring constantly at a screen filled with moving dots for even 24 hours, let alone longer, remains to be seen,” says Zeke.

Guinness have set the bar at a minimum of 24 hours seeing as there is no official record of the like currently standing, but if Zeke’s up to the task they’d be happy for him to go on indefinitely. They’ve also ruled that only one game from the series can be played for the duration of the record attempt.

“I’m not nearly as fanatical about the Guitar Hero series as people initially suppose on hearing about the record, nor am I particularly any good,” states Zeke. “I do enjoy it but prefer playing the actual guitar much more… in fact, I’ve avoided playing the game recently, since the last thing I want to do is get sick of it in advance!”
