[GDC] Get ready for Playstation 3D

Although the introduction of HD displays was hindered by consumer confusion, the facts of the 3D revolution are going to be crystal clear to credit-card holders if Sony have their way. The multi-national electronics giant will launch a new range of 3D-ready televisions in June, and fully intend to answer your queries with one snappy answer: PlayStation 3.

Speaking at the Games Developers Conference in San Francisco, Sony's Simon Benson confirmed a winter launch for the new Bravia range, and commented that 3D content should be live in time for release.

Three games were on show at GDC to demonstrate the new tech, including racers WipEout HD and MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, as well as classic shoot-'em-up Super Stardust. Whether these titles will be among those ready for consumers in a few months is uncertain but seems likely, going by Benson's later comments to press:
"I don't know if we've formally announced what we're doing for launch. But there is certainly going to be a good range of content - there probably won't be any unusual surprises, let's say."
Sony had previously confirmed that the PlayStation 3 console would be made 3D capable during this year with a pair of firmware updates, one each to add support for 3D gaming and movie playback.
