"Hold your wee for Wii" tragedy: verdict reached

Water: The silent killer
Back in 2007, a Californian radio station organised a pun-based water-drinking competition. The rules were simple: Drink more water than anyone else, without vomiting or wetting yourself.

Jennifer Strange had the biggest bladder on the day but, some hours after the competition, was complaining to colleagues that "her head hurt real bad." A few hours later, she was dead.

The coroner recorded death by water intoxication and the station fired several employees as a result.

Now, almost two years later, Fox reports that the jurors in the wrongful death case have reached a verdict, finding the station liable for damages of US$16.5m.

A spokesman for the station said "we respect the jury's decision and hope that it will assist the Strange family in coping with its loss."
