GTA IV world record broken to general applause

Nico is fascinating.
I don't normally consider the setting of Guiness World Records of much interest, even when they involve video games, and even when those games are awesome. But when somebody plays Grand Theft Auto IV for forty hours straight and is practically awarded a medal for it, I start wondering where to sign up.

Chirantan Patnaik of Mumbai is the proud owner of the new record, and has received flattering media attention for his patriotic endeavours and healthy lifestyle. No, really!

Rather than injecting caffeine into his veins and stocking up on junk food as you might expect, the newly-crowned record holder prepared for his marathon with running and yoga. As well as getting into peak physical shape, his other advice for maintaining alertness is to avoid eating dates. Will do.

The record attempt was sponsored by an online gaming portal, Zapak, whose CEO Rohit Sharma made the following glowing statement:
"We have always believed in the potential of Indian gamers. Chirantan's success is a proud moment for the Indian gaming industry. This will encourage more youngsters to take gaming seriously,"
Do... do youngsters really need that advice...?

Although a long-time and keen gamer, Patnaik had not had the chance to play GTA IV prior to his record attempt, which makes me wonder how much of his phenomenal attention span was rooted in that new-game joy familiar to anyone with a new release and a rainy long weekend. Or maybe he was just trying to find all the pigeons...?
