Your government will protect you: WoW finally rated

It only took them five years, but our wise and noble masters at the Classification Board (previously known as the Office of Film and Literature Classification) have finally got around to passing judgment on World of Warcraft.

Their decision: WoW is rated 'M: Fantasy violence, Online content variable.'

It only took them so long to deliver this clinical analysis because their initial assessment was that the massively multiplayer online nature of the product was sufficient to blur the legal definition of what a video game is, and render the subscription-based product 'unclassifiable.'

Now they've changed their minds. This is something the Board does a lot; let's not forget their banning and subsequent un-banning of Mahunt.

More tawdry details of the dilly-dallying and back-tracking of our censorship overlords at Gamespot.
