Now Playing (29/09/09)

It is Tuesday, and that means it is time for another edition of Now Playing, where we examine several trailers, bemoan their existence, and generally speak in short, hushed tones about the other side of video game marketing.
Today we will take a look at some zombies who happen to not always obey the laws of on-rails shooters, followed by a visit from a guardian. After that, we go undercover, pretending that we know something about a certain recently launched MMO, before finally looking at what exactly it takes to kill a dream.
Resident Evil is a series that's been around for a while, with the T-Virus having spread to almost every recent gaming platform. It seems that the infection is persisting on the Wii, with yet another on-rails shooter to be released in the series in the near future. While it looks like more of the same, those wanting another "mature" title for the Wii don't really have many other options at this point...

Those of you who are interested in what will be available in the future for the PlayStation 3, and have a desire to play something that isn't "just another shooter" will probably already be aware of The Last Guardian. The Tokyo Game Show saw some new information (and a new trailer) from the game released, and they show off a little bit of new stuff. While I personally feel that the graphical style is a bit juvenile (in spit of whatever technical trickery is going on under the hood) - the game does look like something unique.

Ubisoft have a lot going for them at the moment, and Splinter Cell: Conviction is looking to be one of the their more interesting titles. In a fairly blatant rip off of an earlier Call of Duty: Modern Warfare trailer, we get the release date for the game, and some new gameplay footage - both of which are good things.

As the game has dominated the Steam top sellers list for some weeks now, we've finally decided to give Aion some of the attention it deserves, even if it is within the halls of Now Playing where we don't fully understand the game. In any case, it does look pretty, and people flying about with wings does look interesting, even if it is a MMO.

This game looks a bit interesting - it has a premise and visual style that reminds me both of Psychonauts and Painkiller, with a bit of Max Payne thrown in for good measure - while those elements on their own are ... very good, I can see how (and how they wouldn't) work all that well together. We'll just have to wait and see - but the game does look interesting.
