Diablo III may be censored for Australian audiences

In a recent interview, Jay Wilson, the Director / designer of Diablo III has said that in some nations, such as Germany, China, and potentially even Australia the game may need to be edited to abide with any classification rules specific to the country in question.

While it is probably unlikely that Diablo III will need to be edited for an Australian audience, the possibility is there.

The question of whether the game would need special treatment in order to be sold in Australia was raised by Wired, in which a question was asked lumping, Germany, Australia and China together as one big conglomerate where video game censorship reigns supreme. In response, Jay Wilson said that:
Definitely for regions like Germany and Australia, we will have to change blood if we’re going to sell there. And that’s fine. Those are the standards for those regions, and we don’t really have a problem with catering to what they need and what they want.
From what we've seen so far of Diablo III - it seems like the game's blood and gore are fairly tame and stylised. Whether or not this will get through the Classification Board is another question. As the game is nowhere near release at this point in time, we may just have to wait and see how this plays out.

In any case, (at this stage, at least) it doesn't look like Diablo III will be mixing sex, or drugs with its violence, which means that we may be okay. Diablo III is expected to arrive at some point in the (possibly) distant future. More information about the game can be found in our previous news coverage.
