Now Playing (18/08/09)

Welcome to this week's instalment of Now Playing, where each week we strive to bring you a collection of interesting, sometimes wonderful, sometimes woeful trailers.
This week sees a diverse bunch of trailers, with some new single player content from Starcraft II leading the charge. After we're done fighting the zerg, we go to fight a different kind of foe after travelling through the Stargate. Once we get back to Earth, we spend some time in race cars making some things pretty DiRTY.
Once the cars make us angry, we'll start destroying them, as if we are a Dragon Rising. Finally, we take some time to meet Wynne, who is a character that will feature in an upcoming game from Bioware.
While there's many peope who want Starcraft II just for the multiplayer component, there is a bunch of people who want it just the for single player content. The latest trailer focuses on snippets from the single player portion of the game, and shows off a bit of the interface, a few of the objectives and the general "in-game" storytelling that Starcraft II appears to use.

As an incredibly dedicated fan of the Stargate universe, I honestly can't see how a single video game, let alone a MMO will do the entire scope of the series justice. But, as most of us know, many video game companies like to take an idea and run with it. Whether or not Stargate Worlds will be any good is a question that has not yet been answered. If we take the trailer we've just gotten our hands on as any indication, we'll have to say, in a disappointed tone that we're currently not all that hopeful.

Rally racing has always seemed more interesting than regular racing. For one, the event itself usually doesn't see main roads in towns being blocked off, and the cars and their drivers are free to go make loud noises in far away places where only the people who want to hear them are subjected to such tortures. While Colin McRae: DiRT 2 will attempt to change this, moving onto every single platform currently in circulation (with the exception of the PS2) I'm happy that the game won't at least be forced down our throats like so many other popular sporting events.

If you're not too enthused about the rally cars featured in the previous trailer, then this next one will make you happy. You'll be even happier when you attempt to combine in your mind war machines and rally cars. While that does mean that the rally cars will likely become useless hunks of metal (unless they can outpace an attack helicopter), they'll at least look pretty while they're being destroyed.

With the gaming drought in full swing, and no decent role-playing games in sight, I'd like to think that I am not alone in wishing that November would come sooner so that I can get my hands on Dragon Age: Origins and just forget about the current burden that is reality. The most recent trailer from the game introduces us to the character Wynne. While I'd be lying if I said she seems interesting, as we know, Bioware work in strange ways. We'll just have to wait and see.

Each week, far too many trailers for video games are released. While Now Playing would absolutely love to provide insightful commentary on every single one, we do have other commitments.
As such, this little portion of Now Playing is dedicated to all the trailers that didn't have an interesting title or incredible appeal to the twisted mind behind Now Playing.
This week's selection is pretty broad, and if you can't find anything that interests you, then I'd suggest you hibernate until October, that's when all the good games start coming out.
