By Jessica Citizen - Mon Jul 20, 2009 8:10am
Each week, we collate the most popular stories that we published over the past seven days, plus a lineup of the most downloaded files added in the same timeframe. That way, in case you missed something, you can catch up in one helpful little spot, every Monday morning.
Last week there was a lesson: Don't make threats against your country while playing games, you'll get arrested. The rest of the week was full of night-vision goggles, giant mechs, and a couple of our E3 videos - Borderlands and Aliens vs. Predator.
For the rest, you'll have to check the full list!

| WoW player arrested over ingame threats Way back in 2007, an American student was arrested for threats he made on Xbox Live. Today, history repeats itself, with an Indiana man facing federal charges over threats made while playing World of Warcraft. According to an incident report, while playing the game earlier this week, the 18-year-old stated that he "was going to board a plane at 7:30 to Chicago and that (he) was going to try and kill as many Americans as possible". Unsurprisingly, someone noted these messages and alerted the real-world authorities, who paid the man a visit. |

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 prestige edition revealed Many gamers argue that the collector's edition is a pretty useless thing to get your hands on, as generally, all you get is a pretty box, an art book, and nothing else very interesting. While there is exceptions to this rule, there is also stuff that has a fairly high novelty factor, such as the newly titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Not content with one or two collector's editions, Infinity Ward are keen to to show off three different versions of the game. They're so excited, in fact, about what the fancy, "prestige" edition will offer gamers that they've made a video showing us everything that can be found in the box. |

MechWarrior 4 to be released for free soon Last week, it was revealed that a complete rebirth of the classic MechWarrior series was under way. Those of you who frantically went off in search of your game discs, only to not find them will be pleased to know that MechWarrior 4 will soon be released as a free download. The reasons for free distribution of MechWarrior 4 are three fold. The first of these is in celebration of the 25th anniversary of BattleTech. The second is in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of MekTek, who have supported MechWarrior 4 with a number of unofficial expansion since the game's release. |

Games On Net goes to E3 - Borderlands It's been a while since we heard about Gearbox's upcoming role-playing shooter Borderlands, but that doesn't mean they've stopped working on the project. We first heard about it way back in 2007, but it's finally now due for a release in the Australian Spring of this year - and sounds like one to keep an eye on! While at E3 last month, Bennett and the crew caught up with Mike Neumann, Creative Director at Gearbox Software, to chat about what's in store. Apparently, in addition to a pretty in-depth storyline, we can look forward to more than a hundred side-missions (including some grenade-assisted fishing!), co-op multiplayer (both online and offline), and some nifty customisable gameplay options. Want to know more? You'll have to check out our video interview now, won't you! |

Games On Net goes to E3: Aliens vs. Predator 'The Marines' Interview As we wade through the stash of recently-uncovered E3 videos that Bennett and the crew shot in LA last month, it's time to revisit a game we took a look at a little earlier. I know there's a bunch of you who are pretty interested in Aliens vs. Predator, so we've decided to take a second look at the upcoming release from Sega, and after focussing so much on the Predator himself last time, this time around we'll spend a bit of time finding out about the Marines. |
| Demigod (PC Review) If you like strategy games, you'll almost certainly be familiar with the work of Gas Powered Games. You may also know them for their RPG work, which they dabble in, from time to time. It seems that they've decided to smoosh the two genres together, resulting in their new baby, the (wait for it) RTS/RPG hybrid, Demigod. Want to be a god while exploring some strategy and role-playing? I can think of a few people who'd get pretty excited at that concept... if you're like one of them (or you'd just like to know more anyway), then check out our latest review, which comes to us from Steven Perdikis. |

Games On Net goes to E3 - MAG (Massive Action Game) MAG is still a bit of an unknown quantity. It's been stuck with one of the most unimaginative names in the games industry (Massive Action Game), but people still don't really know too much about it. If you've been itching to know how exactly this 256-player online shooter is going to work, we've got a few tidbits to share with you, as part of our ongoing E3 coverage. Bennett and the crew caught up with Ed Byrne, creative director at developers Zipper Interactive, to find out a bit more about the game - including details on how exactly a side of 128 people are going to communicate via voice-based chat. |
| Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood (Xbox 360 Review) If you liked the multiplayer elements of 2007 Wild West shooter Call of Juarez, listen up. The guys at Techland have continued the trend, and the fun doesn't end when you finish the story mode in newly-released prequel, Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood. Bennett Ring took the time to blast his way through a few hours of multiplayer goodness with the new game, and has presented us with a review that focuses on the fun you can have with a few mates online. |

| Overlord II (PC Review) If you've been looking for a new way of getting your Overlord fix, look no further. The aptly-named Overlord II is here, and there are worse things you could do than check it out. As you'd expect, Overlord II takes the fine tradition started with the original game, and continues from there. There's no denying that Steven Perdikis is a bit of a fan of the first game, but will he like this re-visit? Better take a look at our latest review to find out! |

You'll need to grab this latest Team Fortress 2 update, freshly delivered from the boys and girls over at Steam. The Medic, Sniper and Soldier will appreciate the tweaks to the Linux Dedicated Server and the game engine itself, while I'm sure the Demo-man, Engineer and the Spy will appreciate the handful of changes and fixes now released for the game (including updates to the Cloak and Dagger). Restart your Steam client and you can get re-aquainted with your nine cartoon comrades, all neatly updated. Hoorah! |

Steam Top Seller List - Week Ending 12th July What have the gaming public been buying this week via digital distribution platform Steam? I'm sure it's not really a surprise to know that we're all retro fans here, buying enough copies of freshly-released Tales of Monkey Island to bump it into top spot! ...there's also some fighting, some post-apocalyptic goodness, some shooting and some zombies, but if you want to know the rest, you'll have to check out the Steam Top Sellers for the week ending July 12th. |
| Left 4 Dead launches new Lobby Browser Left 4 Dead are shaping up for the weekend with a pretty exciting new development - a brand new Lobby Browser. This will show you a handy dandy list of the "optimal games" for you to join - making it much easier to find people to play with (or against). The browser does all the hard work for you, sorting through the thousands of lobbies and games being played at any time, and tailoring the results just for you. It's also a useful little way of discovering new add-on campaigns you might not be aware of, as the list will contain add-ons nestled in amongst the official maps. Of course, if you're not interested in these, you can filter the list to only show the official ones, or only the add-ons, as well as ranking by difficulty and sorting out the difference between lobbies and games in progress. We've got the full changelog - the update's out right now via Steam, and is definitely something you want to grab quicksmart. |

Resident Evil 5 PC benchmark and release date uncloaked Those of you who have been holding off on a purchase of Resident Evil 5 in anticipation of the PC release will be pleased to known that Capcom and nVidia have partnered to give those that are waiting for the PC version of the game (due to launch on the 18th of September in Australia) some gifts. The first of these is complete support for nVidia's 3D vision technology, which allows users to view stereoscopic 3D content in high definition using an IR emitter, high-tech, active 3D glasses, and an LCD monitor capable of 120 Hz. While not much hardware on the market supports all of that, those who are contemplating adopting the technology will be pleased to know that nVidia, and Capcom have released a tech demo and benchmark demonstrating Resident Evil 5 running on the PC, with the ability (for those that have the hardware) to witness the game in stereoscopic 3D, for the first time, on the PC. |
