MechWarrior is coming back
Long time PC gamers will fondly remember the MechWarrior series, which for many gamers, was one of the first action titles they had ever played on a PC. While the series has long been dormant, it has now been announced that a new title in the series is currently in development.

The new title - simply called MechWarrior plans to be a complete rebirth of the series, in a bid to introduce the world of BattleTech to an all new audience, while also allowing long term fans of the series to drown in their nostalgia.

While very few details regarding the game have been confirmed - the developers of the title have detailed what features they'd like to the implement in the game. All of that, however, depends on the game finding a publishing partner.

Given the rich history of the series and the fact that a new MechWarrior is likely to sell like hot cakes - that shouldn't be a problem. In the meantime, we've got some first details regarding the game, along with a shiny teaser trailer to share.

MechWarrior is in development for the PC and the Xbox 360, and is powered by the Unreal 3 Engine. Current plans that have been detailed for the game suggest that it will consist of mainly urban combat, with the ability to use a variety of mechs, each which have their own strengths and advantages.

Strategy and resource management are to play a key role in the game, with light mechs needed to scout out targets for assault and heavy mechs. This will be a major part of the multiplayer game, and will also transfer across to the single player campaign, in which players will be able to choose a specific role within a squad.

More depth and re-playability will be added to the game by allowing players to tackle the enemy through a co-op mode, and much longevity is assured through a persistent online conflict that will accompany the game. As players use one particular mech type, they will become more specialised in its use, and will be able to unlock upgrades for particular weapons.

While no release date has been mentioned for the game yet - it is likely that we won't be seeing this one until late 2010. We'll bring you more details as we get them.
