LucasArts release ten classics through Steam tomorrow
Oh, LucasArts! You do love us! Here we thought maybe you were just toying with our fragile hearts, but no! Not only do you announce a revamp of the original Secret of Monkey Island, and set out to reinvigorate the franchise with Telltale's new episodic series, Tales of Monkey Island, now you go ahead and put the icing on the cake (and the ring on the finger, and consummate the marriage) by partnering with Valve to make a large slice of the classic back catalogue available via Steam!

LucasArts have been teasing their "amazing news" for the last few days, and late Monday confirmed the following titles for release through Steam this week:

Classic-look Secret of Monkey Island
  • Armed and Dangerous
  • Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
  • Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: The Graphic Adventure
  • LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventure
  • LOOM
  • Star Wars Battlefront II
  • Star Wars Republic Commando
  • Star Wars Starfighter
  • The Dig
  • Thrillville: Off the Rails
  • If one of your favourites hasn't made the list, never fear: This is only the first in a series of release planned by LucasArts, with future titles to be announced soon (rock on Day of the Tentacle). My personal pick has got to be Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis; only this week Matt Keller's review of the most recent addition to the Indy canon, the Wii-waggling Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings, didn't exactly dance around the fact that the inclusion of Fate of Atlantis as an unlockable bonus was a key point in the disappointing title's favour. Good news for those who don't want to sit through the Wii title, then!

While many of these titles can be acquired through other, mainly-convoluted means, the ease and legitimacy of popping them up on Steam is certainly very appealing for those who want to re-experience some of the most memorable moments of gaming's recent history, or for those looking to expand their knowledge of the classics to discover what all the fuss is about, as LucasArts president Darrell Rodriguez comments:
"This effort is going to make it possible to introduce a whole new generation of gamers to LucasArts’ classic games ... It also gives more people a chance to play our games by making them available long after they’ve disappeared from store shelves. We hope our fans are as excited as we are about our plans and we can’t wait to share what’s coming next. This is just the beginning.”
You tease, we can't wait either!
