Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will soon own Midway

Earlier this week, it was reported that Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment were the only company to have made a bid on the properties of Midway Games. Today, it has been noted that the Delaware Bankruptcy Court has approved the deal, with the presiding judge also waiving the standard ten-day wait for such a deal.

For a price of US$33 million, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will acquire the Midway properties Mortal Kombat, and The Wheelman, and the studios attached to each property.

The fate of two Midway studios not included in the deal, the Newcastle based British studio, currently developing Necessary Force, and the San Diego studio, which worked on the TNA iMPACT series has not yet been sealed. It is possible that another buyer for these two studios may be found, or that the studios may be closed.

While it seems that Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment do not yet seem to have any plans for the Mortal Kombat franchise, it doesn't take a genius to realise that is only a matter of time before we see something new in the Mortal Kombat series. Perhaps this will be by way of an iPhone version of the classic 2D fighter, or on all-new game. At this point - the future of the Mortal Kombat series is anyone's guess.
