Battlefield 1943 to release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 next week

DICE have announced that the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 versions of Battlefield 1943 are due to launch via the Xbox LIVE Marketplace and the PlayStation Network next week. Pricing for the game is 1200 Microsoft Points on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace, and US$15 on the PlayStation network.

The game is due for release on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace on the 8th of July, and those on the PlayStation 3 will see the game hit during the next weekly update, the 9th of July.

Battlefield 1943 will see players fight in the Pacific theatre of World War II as either the US Marines or Imperial Japanese Navy, in a fight for ground, sea and air control in order to turn the tide of the war. Maps that will feature in the downloadable game include Wake Island, Iwo Jima, and Guadalcanal.

The game is powered by the Frostbite Engine which has been reworked and improved since the release of Battlefield: Bad Company. There's still no word on an exact release date for the PC version of Battlefield 1943, but it is anticipated that the game will hit the PC in September this year.
