Dreamkiller awakens from slumber
What does it say about a person when the tagline "hideous and disturbing" catches their interest? I hope it's something nice, because one glance at those two words and I was already intrigued by Dreamkiller. A newly announced FPS, this title sells itself as unspeakably horrifying - which probably just means the PR guys involved haven't been paying attention to games for the last ten or so years. Still, all we have to go on at this stage is this handful of early screenshots, so let's take a looksie, shall we?

I can't say it looks likely to have me hiding behind the couch yet, but I suppose those nasties are a bit more unpleasant when they leap out from behind things and such. The premise behind the game is that the player is somehow transported into the very nightmares of certain poor individuals suffering possession by horrors unknown. Psychologist Alice Drake evokes a theme similar to cult film The Cell as the game's protagonist gifted with the ability to enter her patient's subconscious, where her quest to cure common metal ailment is usurped by the discovery of an unpleasant lurker...

Twelve different dreamscapes offer varied level design, and being armed with psychic abilities as well as the usual range of weaponry, Alice apparently doesn't see much point in restraining her inclination to turn into bloody pulp the hordes of enemies that inhabit them. Dreamkiller is expected on PC and Xbox 360 later this year.
