[E3 2009] Now Playing - E3 Special 2009: Day 3
By Steven Perdikis - Thu Jun 4, 2009 6:04pm
It is Day 3 of E3, and the tide of trailers and news has no end in sight. Today, we've got 35 trailers to share with you, and they're all ready to download from the mirror.
Tonight, we'll take a look at Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion, Dead Space Extraction for the Nintendo Wii, Section 8 a sci-fi multiplayer focused shooter, LEGO Rock Band, with all of its musical calamity, and Left 4 Dead 2, where you can use a common household object such as a frying pan to fight back against the zombie invasion.
Enjoy!

Every now and then, it seems like fun to be able to bash up other virtual characters in a game. While the trailer for Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion teases us with the phrase "what are you waiting for?" (the game to come out, duh!), it does show off a bunch of in game footage that makes the game look quite entertaining, even for those that don't really enjoy arcade styled fighting games. I mean, you can destroy things and punch people, what more could you want?

Dead Space Extraction will bring the much lauded new IP from Electronic Arts to the Wii, where players can explore the events that lead up to the first game in the series. The game is exclusive to the console, and will allow players to waggle their WiiMotes at aliens, making them somehow die of laughter due to whatever silly poses and facial expressions eventuate from the moves needed to be executed by the player. In any case, the game should be decent, as it is in development by the same guys who worked on the much acclaimed Dead Space.

Section 8 takes players to the front line of a futuristic sci-fi battle where they embark on what are considered to be "suicide missions" by many members of the armed forces. Entering the battlefield in huge, armoured suits, they use high tech weapons to wage war against their foes, all the while looking stylish and fearless. The game is powered by the Unreal 3 Engine, and as a result looks very pretty.

Rock Band enters LEGO territory, with surprising results. The game is due to feature a family-friendly set list, and first impressions from trailers and screenshots seem to be looking fairly bright. There's the obligatory blocky graphics, humour, and of course, the near flawless music-gameplay of Rock Band, all with LEGO avatars controlling the show. Will be great if you can build your own stages with LEGO, and smash your LEGO guitars with hilarious results. While that's not likely, the game looks like it will be fun in any case, like any Rock Band game.

While many argue that it is too early for Left 4 Dead 2, you can't go past being able to use a frying pan as a weapon to brutalise zombies with. It's every gamer's childhood dream, right? Even if it isn't, the new trailer shows off more zombies, more killing, and everything else that makes Left 4 Dead 2 a worthy successor the first game. While it may segregate the player base, and shows only a tiny bit of innovation, its about time the humble frying pan became weapon of zombie slaughter. Also - why couldn't the game be called Left 4 Dead: Alone Again? that would have been so much cooler, than this whole, "Hey guys, lets add a two to the name and be done with it!"

As it is E3 Week, we just can't bring ourselves to demean trailers to the status of "Didn't Make the Cut", which regularly graces Now Playing each week. To celebrate this, we've introduced a special After Hours Screening session, in which you can view all the trailers that didn't make it into Now Playing proper. They're all on the mirror, and ready for you to download or stream.
Today's selection includes: Join us again tomorrow for another dose of trailers, straight from E3!
