[E3 2009] Battlefield 1943 heads to the Coral Sea with your help
Everybody, gather 'round. DICE wants you to take part in a massive community event for Battlefield 1943 when it launches this winter. They've just announced a fourth map for the game, Coral Sea, but when you buy the game, it will be locked away where you can't get to it.

If you want a chance to play this new WWII map, then you'd better have your trigger finger ready - it'll only unlock when the multiplayer community has achieved 43M kills on PlayStation Network, and the same number on Xbox Live ...until that happens, you'll only have three maps to play on: Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal and Wake Island. Take a look at what you're missing out on, with this new Coral Sea trailer!

Designed specifically to showcase some intense battling in the sky, Coral Sea offers an all-new Air superiority gameplay mode. You'll be dog-fighting like a champ in this aeroplane-only map, showing off DICE's skills at delivering "first class online vehicle warfare".

Coral Sea joins three tropical locations (Wake Island, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima), and all four maps have been updated with the DICE Frostbite engine, which means they'll be pretty destructible - nowhere to hide! Take a look at the new Iwo Jima and the updated Wake Island if you need some more visual stimulation.

You'll play as either the US Marines or the Imperial Japanese Navy, and battle it out over land, air and sea. Pick your own preferred path in battle: crawl through trenches as a rifleman, take on the duties of a steel-fisted tank commander, or maybe become an ace dog-fighter pilot, ruling the skies!

Battlefield 1943 will be released next month through both Xbox Live Marketplace (where it'll set you back 1200 MS Points) and PlayStation Store (US$14.99), with a PC release expected in September. Once the game kicks off, you'll be able to log onto the official website to see how your console of choice is faring.

...oh, and all four maps will be playable on the show floor at E3 2009, if you happen to be in Los Angeles next week.
