Resident Evil 5, Blizzard soundtracks

Score: bleak, moody, awesome.
It never rains but it pours, as the weather seems keen to prove - so after quite a long drought during which little interesting game soundtrack news was to be heard, the universe rewards us today with two little tidbits. For horror fans who just can't get enough of sounds that make you look nervously over your shoulder, the Resident Evil 5 soundtrack has just been released, and Blizzard fans are able to get their hands - or should I say ears? - on auditory previews of two very highly anticipated titles as part of a compilation.

Echoes of War is a collection of orchestral themes from various Blizzard titles, including unreleased pieces from upcoming titles Diablo III and Starcraft II. The 2 disc compilation was recorded by Sydney-based independent symphony orchestra Eminence, whose primary interests include the contemporary classical music of games, anime and science. Coming in at about 90 minutes length, Echoes of War was previously released in a limited run, unfortunately missed by many disappointed fans, and will re-release on June 16th, with a discount available to those who pre-order through Eminence's online store.

The Resident Evil 5 OST probably won't see a physical release locally, except in specialty stores, but is available in some regions through the iTunes store or from distributor Sumthin Else's digital service; if you're the sort who likes to have packaging and lining notes along wioth your music, it can also be ordered as a really real CD album From Sumthin Else's Amazon store. You might need to free some space on your MP3 player or CD rack, though - this behemoth weighs in at a whopping 3 CDs' worth of music. That's practically longer than the game!
