World of Warcraft extended maintenance hits servers

Listen up, you dear things who enjoy a bit of a visit to the World of Warcraft. Being a Tuesday, we're in for some maintenance this evening, but today things are a little different than normal. On one hand, there's the standard downtime, which we're told will take place between 3am and 11am PDT (that's between 7:30pm and 3:30am, Adelaide time).
On the other hand, because we're special little gamers, we have a list of certain realms who are in for an extended maintenance shift, which will run for twelve hours starting at midnight Pacific (4:30pm Adelaide time this afternoon, until 4:30am tomorrow morning). Looking over the list of who will and who won't be affected by the downtime, it doesn't sound good for anyone playing on oceanic servers, including Proudmoore and Blackrock.
While the official word from Blizzard is that the extended downtime is related to hardware upgrades, rumours abound that it may also herald the introduction of Patch 3.1.2 onto the game servers. Wait and see, I guess!
