Blood Bowl Star Players step into spotlight

Is it so wrong to find the prospect of a few rounds of Blood Bowl pretty damn appealing? The upcoming sports combat title is based on the Games Workshop tabletop game of the same name, and is a strange combination of different football paradigms mixed with a dash - or dollop - or, well, entire helping - of good old fashioned beating the other side into a bloody pulp. The latest information to come hurtling out of developer Cyanide's fetid locker room concerns the various Star Players successful managers will be able to recruit for their team. Not only can you get the gossip and start planning how to incorporate these legends into your line up, we have some screenshots you can pin up on your bedroom walls.

To the big, nasty fellas first of all. The handsome lad on the left is Grashnak Blackhoof, available for hire by Minotaur teams. As you can see he is not only large but also rather frightening looking, although an unfortunate problem for members of his species who want to maintain a tough-guy facade, his cute little cow tail kind of detracts from the overall image.
If Orcs are your weapon of choice, keep an eye on your funds so as to be able to snatch up Varag Ghoul-Chewer, over on the right there, if he condescends to offer his services. Oh, who am I kidding? I expect he'd play for free if it wasn't against the rules. Look at him! He might chew ghouls but I don't think he's much kinder on his race's traditional foes, the Elves.

Speaking of our pointy-eared friends, the quick, slick race have their own champion, here pictured on the left, who either wears a rather silly helmet or has the world's most awesome hair. I think he probably spends his off-field time making money from deodorant and toothpaste endorsement deals, with a name like Jordell Freshbreeze.
Last but not least comes our very own species, and the Human legend Griff Oberwald certainly looks the business, if the business is a mish-mash of three or four patriotic superheroes.
Bloodbowl is due for release on DS, PC, PSP and Xbox 360 in September, so hopefully we'll see a few details on the other Star Players available to the remaining teams before then!
