Lord of the Rings Online: Second Anniversary and Book 8 teasers
Happy Birthday, Lord of the Rings Online. Not only is there some news on Book 8 but it's party time. To mark this wondrous occasion Gollum and Turbine want past subscribers to attend the festivities. That's right; all accounts are re-activated for a short limited time! And there are all sorts of enticing incentives for old and new players alike.

Experience wise, there's the 25% experience bonus but sadly it vanishes in a few more days so take action now. The famous special US $9.99 subscription rate is also being offered for the three, six, or twelve month options. (US servers only.) And monsters in game will be dropping a range of special items which can be turned-in for special anniversary gift boxes. On June 30th, the promotion finally wraps-up with all active subscribers receiving the writ of passage which makes stable master travel 20% cheaper.

Book 8 is on the way!

The epic storyline continues in the Mines of Moria, the adventure isn't over as trouble is afoot in Khazad-dûm. According to Jeffrey Steefel, Executive Producer on Lord of the Rings Online small party based instance combat continues to be the main emphasis over the overall player experience in Book 8. And beyond Book 8, adventurers will venture into the southern twisted region of Mirkwood! More specifically, Dol Guldur - if you read The Hobbit you may remember this was a stronghold of Sauron where he fled after the One Ring was lost.

The story is crucial and catalyst for everything but gameplay wise there's also something in the works. Skirmishes, described as dynamic instances the mechanic takes into account a party's size and adjusts content accordingly. The instances will be repeatable and feature multiple objectives for various sized groups. There's also talk of a type of henchmen system where players can train customizable soldiers and bring inside these skirmishes.

A new Summer Festival is planned and will coincide with Book 8 which is expected to launch sometime in June. Lastly, how about an increased level cap? This may be somewhat controversial among the playerbase but the new cap is planned for later in the year. There's so much free content in the works, this next year is looking even better than the last.
