Singularity enters manufacturing environment, destroying all
By now, most of you know the drill of the generic first person shooter. Take a game engine, add a few environments, a conflict of sorts, a few puzzles, and add a storyline pertaining to some sort of scientific anomaly. Then, give the idea to Raven Software, bake until golden, and then commence contracting renowned vault makers to store the inevitable truck load of riches that follows.

Then we come to Singularity, which while apparently being a first person shooter through and through, adds some new things to the fray. For one, there is a unique device that is given to the player which allows them to bend time in a number of ways, giving them the chance to exploit a number of unique gameplay mechanics. There is also the ability destroy cover (and their enemies) using the device, and should they choose to be (constructive) instead of destructive, they can also repair broken walkways and bridges.

Some of the potential uses of the fancy device are shown off in this new manufacturing trailer, which also gives us a first glimpse at one of the many environments that will feature in the full game.

Singularity is set around a Russian experiment that began in the Cold War era, which unleashed an event known only as the Singularity, causing an island of the former Soviet Union to be in constant flux, shifting between 1950 and the year 2010.

The game will be released at some point this year, and is currently in development at Raven Software, who are using the Unreal 3 engine to bring their dreams to life on the PC, PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. Singularity is one of their first titles using the engine, alongside X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
