Battlefield 1943 - release date, pricing, and Wake Island revealed
Electronic Arts, and DICE have announced that their upcoming throwback to World War II, Battlefield 1943 will be available on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in June this year, with a PC version to follow in September. The console versions of the game will be available through their respective digital distribution channels, and will be priced US$15 on the PlayStation Network, and 1200MS Points on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace.

To celebrate the announcement, DICE have released a new trailer, for the game, which focuses on the much-lauded and popular Wake Island map, which is due to make a return in the game, where gamers will be able to choose their loyalty - US Marines, or Imperial Japanese Navy, fighting for map control using a variety of vehicles including planes, tanks, and their very own feet.

Other maps to be included in Battlefield 1943 include Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. Each map is lovingly recreated using the all new Frostbite Engine which was used for Battlefield: Bad Company, allowing for the new maps to take advantage of destructible environments, as explained by Gordon Van Dyke, Producer of the title:
Using the same Frostbite engine that we developed for Battlefield: Bad Company, we are able to take players back to WWII and return to the roots of the Battlefield franchise, but with a new twist - destruction. We want to offer gamers the most accessible online shooter experience and the best value found in any premium download title with Battlefield 1943.
With a notable delay on the PC version of the title, all signs point to "I'm not a port", which should ensure that PC owners get the best possible experience out of Battlefield 1943 when it hits in September this year.
