Blue Öyster Cult started rocking out in the late sixties in New York, and haven't stopped yet. The five-man team, who famously hit success with singles like (Don't Fear) The Reaper and Burnin' For You, were one of the earliest metal groups to use the fantasy themes commonly in some genres of European metal today. The group's vocalist Eric Bloom, a gamer and a serious WAR fan, was excited to be in on the project.
“I was very glad to hear from Mythic who invited me down to work on the song. I was impressed by the dedication of the developers to make WAR both a success and fun to play, something that, in my opinion, is missing from many other MMO's.”Kiss My Axe (While I Drink My Beer) is certainly a title with an element of fun in it. The lyrics were penned by WAR Senior Creative Director, Paul Barnett, part of a small group of musical Mythic employees whose jam sessions impressed the venerable rockers enough for them to agree to the collaboration. Certain that they've hit on a marketing win, he commented:
"We thought long and hard about how to properly tell gamers what the Dwarf Slayer is all about ... After going around in circles, we came to the obvious solution – we needed to write and record a hard rockin’ song, and we needed to do it with members of Blue Öyster Cult. If this song doesn’t get you fired up to shave your hair into a mohawk, dye it red, and play a Slayer, then you’re probably dead!"I'll take his word for it, but you can check out the song, which we've got on the mirror!
