Left 4 Dead Survival Pack to hit in just a few short hours

Want your zombie fix? We've got your zombie fix right here... well, we will, in a few hours. The Left 4 Dead Survival Pack downloadable content will be released to Xbox Live at around 2am PST (that's a very convenient 6:30pm in Adelaide), and will hit PCs "later in the day", according to Valve.

This new DLC is free to everybody with a copy of Left 4 Dead, and brings with it a new multiplayer mode - Survival - plus two complete new campaigns for Versus Mode.

But what is Survival Mode? Here's the gossip, according to Kerry Davis and Scott Dalton on the Left 4 Dead blog:
Our goals for Survival Mode are to deliver a mode of play distinct from Campaign or Versus, have games that regularly last under ten minutes, and emphasize competition with team play through leaderboards.

Survival Mode draws on the planning and communication aspects of a successful Finale or Crescendo event, while taking it to another level. It rapidly hits a fever pitch that only a well coordinated team will be able to successfully survive. Everything from simply covering a reviving teammate, to making every shot count to minimize reloads becomes crucial in Survival Mode.
With all the other updatin' goodness going on today, it looks like the boys and girls at Valve are keeping themselves busy, and hopefully keeping gamers happy. We'll let you know as soon as the Left 4 Dead Survival Pack hits this evening - till then, brace yourselves!
