Damnnation - new trailer and release date unveiled
When it was announced at E3 last year, Damnnation, an all-new-shooter from Codemasters promised to not be just another damn shooter, because it would introduce a new element not often seen in shooters - verticality.

Allowing the player complete freedom to move through all three dimensions obviously posed some design issues to the development team. Firstly, all three axis would need to be represented as gameplay design elements, the x,y and z, and this would need to be conducted right from the get-go - how was this achieved? It's all explained in this new trailer that focuses on the level design of the game, which is due to be released, in Australia, on the 28th of May.

Damnation 'Level Design' Trailer

With massive, streaming environments, Damnnation offers diverse environments ranging from dark mines, to "leafy, mountainside ruins", and the cold, but picturesque tundras that typically dominate the Northernmost areas of games. Jacob Minkoff, Lead Game Designer on the title, notes that players won't be limited to simply on path through the game:
All the environments have multiple paths through them, giving players real freedom in deciding how to go about tackling the enemy. Some will prefer to run straight at them with their trusty Railroad Spike Gun. Others would prefer to climb and leap right to the top, avoiding direct fire fights by sniping and raining down death from above.
While that's great for single player - we're assured that the same experience will be available in "new twists" on classic multi player game modes including death match, and capture the flag, along with several new game types, which are yet to be announced.

Damnation will be available on the PC, PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 on the 28th of May. For more information about the title, check out our news coverage from E3 last year! Be sure to also check out the new screenshots which have made their way on to the mirror.
