Now Playing (14/04/09)

Welcome to Now Playing, where each week, Games On Net invites you to enter a specially crafted theatre filled with the most irresistibly interesting, marvellously magnificent, or downright dire trailers from recently released or upcoming games. To accompany the trailers, the much celebrated rants of an embittered gamer echo throughout the deepest chasms of the Internet.
This week, we meet the Queen of Thorns, who would like to burn some zombies. After that, we throw around some electricity, which results in the escape of a bionic hero. Finally, we unleash our fists in some sort of clash.

A place awaits in the pantheon - and what better way to determine the next god than brutal, arena based RTS / RPG combat? This is exactly what Demigod proposes. The fury of the mighty-not-quite yet-a-god-but-I-want-to-be-one, the Queen of Thorns, is unveiled in this new trailer, with commentary from someone on the dev team explaining what is going on in a battlefield between the gods. The game looks interesting, but fairly complicated. It should be out soon, and the beta / demo is currently running for those that have pre-ordered the game, what with their fancy credit cards and pay-pal accounts and other virtual currencies.

Fire is hot. It burns flesh, making for painful hospital visits. Unless of course, the flesh it burns is the flesh of the walking dead, in which case it makes a captivating and mindless, yet somehow hypnotic game pitch. In this "Grave" trailer, the game Burn Zombie Burn presents itself as not only a third person shooter, but a tower defence game, where you are the tower, and your only defence is mobility, your trusty flame thrower, and other firearms and explosives in a bid to make the hovering numbers above your head tick like clockwork into the thousands and millions. Don't understand what I'm saying? Watch the trailer.

The Wii is still a console that is plagued by a lack of "mature" titles. Sure, there are a select few titles on the platform that cater for the blood and gore thirsty, but there isn't many. The latest of these that is currently in developed is the The Conduit, which has a plot about conspiracy theories, and all that sort of lovely stuff. In the latest trailer, the "All Seeing Eye" is revealed, which... demonstrates its ability to see all, as suggested by the trailer's name. Captivating stuff, indeed.

Capcom's latest sees the revival of one of their classic properties, Bionic Commando, in all new, all 3D environments, on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The newest, misleading trailer, contrary to popular belief is not *gasp!* a lab report, but is instead cunningly disguised gameplay footage involving the action-packed mode of transportation now known as next-gen cliché number three. This mode of transportation, which will make its way onto consumer markets in the coming years, is completely carbon neutral, and more economical than oil, but due to the elective nature of the surgery, and the fact that the hospitals have been destroyed, good luck actually getting around like this until say... another century or so.

What is the easiest way to answer hard questions? "Why Not?" Zeno Clash, which will be released via digital distribution later this month, answers a number of questions in this new trailer, which, incidentally, introduces a number of the creatures that live in the mystical-fantasy land that is powered by the Source engine. It looks like an interesting title, but whether it will be a knock out hit (hah!) remains to be seen.

This week's pick is the Rhythm Heaven Launch Trailer, which may be considered hell by some. Fifty Rhythm based mini-games, all packed onto a DS cartridge. A one way trip to insanity, me thinks.
If that's not to your tastes, you can always check out some of thefinely crafted, hand picked trailers listed below.

While there is literally hundreds of trailers released for games each week, some simply don't make the cut, or try so hard to be good, that I like to make it an effort for those who really want to see them.Didn't Make the Cut
