Funcom the developer of Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures have announced their next title - which will be a Online MMO set in the modern day world. Entitled The Secret World, the new game will feature New York, London and Seoul as playable areas, in which characters will attempt to "unravel the mysteries, legends and myths that make up our world."
Promising to offer a dose of the "unreal and fantastical", with the "darkness of the secret world" threatening to overcome the world as we know it, the game promises to push MMO boundaries, with gameplay to not be based on classes or levels, instead allowing players to have complete freedom in the development of their character, allowing them to "become whatever they want, and play however they want".
At this stage, little is know about the title, with a solitary trailer having just been released, along with a statement from Ragnar Tørnquist, Senior Producer and Director of the title.

The premise sounds very interesting, and should the game (which has yet to have a release date announced) pull everything that it promises off correctly - it could prove to be a very successful title.
We will keep you informed as we learn more. The Secret World will be available at some undetermined point in the future on the PC and the Xbox 360.

It is great to finally be able to talk about The Secret World, after several years in the dark. The real world is such a rich and fascinating setting for an MMO, and we are able to draw inspiration from ancient history, stories of lost cities and forgotten civilizations, folktales, urban legends, conspiracy theories and pop culture. We are building a game that mixes modern-day Earth with terrifying monsters, dark and occult magic, cool weapons and awesome powers - and it's unlike anything you have ever seen before in an MMO.
