The pearly gates of a mythical world, oppressed, and untouched by the glory of heavy metal await in Brütal Legend, a third person action adventure game from Double Fine Productions. Development on the title is led by the fearless Tim Schafer, which sees players assume the role of Eddie Riggs, a heavy metal roadie voiced by Jack Black who finds himself transported to a "mythical world dripped in Rock and Roll folklore", where "great Metal titans once ruled and power chords rang from the countryside".

A bunch of new screenshots and concept art from the title have been released, which shows off the game's unique visual style and offers the first glimpse at Eddie Riggs in his V8.

While the concept of a heavy metal roadie as the main character of a video game is outlandish, the game is in safe hands, with Double Fine Productions the folk behind the glorious Psychonauts. The new screenshots seem to suggest that Double Fine are on the right track for Brütal Legend, despite the graphics looking a little bit dated by today's standard.

In any case, it will be the gameplay that matters, not the graphics.

No formal release date has yet been announced for Brütal Legend. The game will be published by EA, and will be available for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.
