Call of Duty: World at War map pack downloaded over 1 million times

This plane drops bombs, made of money.
With all the money that has been made from World War II video-games, it is probably likely that the war itself could have been funded several times over by the sales of games such as Call of Duty: World at War.

The latest piece of evidence that suggests this could be a likely scenario has been released by Activision, who have just announced that the recently released map pack for Call of Duty: World at War has sold a staggering one million digital copies in just over a week following its release.

Available now on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace and PlayStation Network, the map pack, which sets gamers back either 800 Microsoft Points, or AU$15.95 grants access to four new maps, including one new map for the game's Nazi-zombie killing mode.

While the map pack is apparently still scheduled for a release on the PC (but no real details regarding this have been announced) - some millions of dollars have poured in from around the world for the maps, which seem to indicate that this downloadable content business is worth some money (despite many detractors arguing that for $16 - four maps is very bad value).

One Million copies downloaded - I wonder how many dead zombies that equates to?

In any case, it has made the folk at Activision and Treyarch happy, with the following rosy statement having been delivered by Mark Lamia, Studio Head of Treyarch:
I’m proud that the team at Treyarch delivered an experience that so many people are enjoying. We’re excited that the success of Call of Duty: World at War Map Pack 1 will continue to drive the popularity of the game’s Nazi Zombie mode, competitive multiplayer and chart-breaking success online.
Meanwhile, Maria Stipp, Actvisiion Executive Vice President and General Manager of Owned Properties chimed in with obligitory awe and a pained attempt to reference the current global financial climate:
The success of Call of Duty: World at War Map Pack 1 speaks to Treyarch and Activision’s ability to provide fans with quality content during a time when people want to get the most out of their Call of Duty experience.
While the Activision and Treyarch treasure chests are struggling to contain the riches handed to them by hordes of gamers, they're sure to burst later this year when Infinity Ward stop teasing gamers and release the next in the Call of Duty franchise, and what is sure to receive several thousand accolades as "Shooter of the Year" (regardless of its actual quality) - Modern Warfare 2.
