Bionic Commando to hit PS3, Xbox 360 May 22nd

Last month, it was revealed that Capcom had pencilled in a date of "May" for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 revival of their Bionic Commando franchise. Today - they've unveiled an exact release date for the title - with North Americans to enter the shoes of Nathan Spencer on the 19th of May, while Europe (and the rest of the world) able to play the game on the 22nd of May.

Bionic Commando places players into the shoes of Nathan Spencer, a man who is betrayed by the government after countless years of loyal service as an agent. Wrongly imprisoned, and marked for death - on the eve of his execution, an "experimental weapon" shreds through Ascension City - resulting in a massive earth quake that is accompanied by a "radioactive shock wave".

The government then realise the error of their ways, after the military is unable to handle the situation. They send in Nathan Spencer - with his Bionic Arm. It is his job to discover what caused the blast (allegedly terrorists) and to remove the terrorist threat from the city in a timely manner courtesey of a range of "devastating attacks".

While the premise and game play are likely to be common-place on the consoles, Capcom also intend to release Bionic Commando on the PC "shortly after the console release". More information regarding the PC version of the game will be unveiled by Capcom in the near future.

Presumably, a demo for the title will be made available on the PlayStation Network and the Xbox LIVE Marketplace closer the game's release.
