Steam Updates - Left 4 Dead, Garry's Mod, Empire: Total War

When one game updates, it seems that others seem to follow in quick succession. Such is the case today - with not one, not two, but three games receiving a bunch of fixes through Steam. There is a new update for Left 4 Dead which introduces a "fatigue" mechanic for melee combat, along with the fix of some crash issues.

Meanwhile, in the land of Garry's Mod, a number of tweaks, fixes and crashes are addressed.

Finally, an update for Empire: Total War sees a variety of improvements - with some campaign crashes, having been fixed, along with a some changes to the save system which should allow a better game play experience.

We've got complete change-lists for each update. As always, restart your Steam client to force an update of any of the games. Otherwise, the game should update the next time you try to start it.


Left 4 Dead

Game and Client Changest
  • Introduced fatigue to the melee attack in versus mode. You will see a HUD display when your melee swing is cooling down

  • Boomer vomit will now pass through common infected

  • Addressed some surround sound detection issues

  • Fixed a rare crash when exiting Left4Dead on Windows Vista

  • Fixed a case where the complete all expert campaigns achievement was not being rewarded

Dedicated Server Changes
  • Corrected an issue where Windows based dedicated were sending spurious shutdown notifications to the master causing them to delist temporarily

  • Fixed dedicated servers not resetting the versus team swap correctly--you could join a dedicated server that had a previous game that was swapped and arrive on the other team than what was selected in the lobby

  • Renamed the tags for sv_search_key to use "key:" in the server tags instead of "sv_search_key." This should help with issues of the 63 character limit of server tags

  • Fixed an occasional server crash related to voting

Garry's Mod
  • Fixed some props not gibbing correctly in multiplayer

  • Fixed occasional clientside Lua error on join

  • Fixed players sometimes spawning in the same spot

  • Prevented players spawning inside each other

  • Fixed server.cfg executing twice

  • Fixed crash due to too many effects being created

  • Fixed networked vars not being transmitted on connect

  • Script enforcer no longer requires a generated clientscript.txt file

  • Fixed http.Get causing freezes

  • Lua errors are now logged in server log

  • Fixed bots getting kicked by script enforcer

  • bot is no longer needs sv_cheats

  • Blocked con_logfile from being changed

  • Beefed up CRC on downloaded Lua files

  • Fixed default HL2 splash shown when in widescreen

Empire: Total War
  • Multiplayer - can now find friends across regions

  • Load time detection on trade routes to fix pathfinding crash in campaign

  • Some General Sound balancing improvements

  • Fixed UI Chat hang when spectator leaves unranked match with 3+ players

  • Varies Campaign Crash Fixes

  • Some Save/Load fixes

  • Boarding fix where cannon crew board order was not being deleted properly causing crash

  • Fix to kill characters instantly to stop crashes in campaign on agent/general deaths

  • Save games limited to 1000

  • Fix to animation glitch causing repetitive sounds when battle is launched
