Metal Gear Solid Touch - check out what the iPhone can do!
Konami have revealed a bunch of new screenshots from Metal Gear Solid Touch, a portable version of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots that has been developed exclusively for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

The new screenshots seem to indicate that Konami aren't attempting a simple port - with the several locations and memorable moments from the no-holds-barred PlayStation 3 epic instantly recognisable, albeit with lower polygon counts and fewer textures.

One such instance of this is best represented with the two screenshots below in which the legendary Solid Snake relives his combat experience with members of the B&B core on the iPhone and iPod Touch.

In addition to closely following the plot of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, it appears that Metal Gear Solid Touch will maintain several key features of the game - with statistics presented to the player at the end of each mission, along with the communication of excessively long and drawn out pieces of expositional story-telling, as evidenced by the two screenshots below:

While no firm release date for the title is yet known, it is expected that an "Advance Edition" of the game will be available in the Australian Autumn of this year, which will feature the frist twelve levels of the twenty-level game, with the final eight levels to be released, for free at a later date.

The more I see of Metal Gear Solid Touch, the more curious I get. If the game is a sucess on the platform, it could open the door for some developers and publishers to aggressively market and develop games for the iPhone and iPod Touch, which could open up portable gaming to a large new audience.
