The general consensus regarding RTS and consoles amongst gamers is one of "why bother?" - but it doesn't seem to stop publishers like EA. Scheduled for a release at some point this month Red Alert 3, the PC and Xbox 360 RTS will migrate onto the PlayStation 3 in the form of Command & Conquer Red Alert 3: Ultimate Edition.

Details of the PlayStation 3 exclusive content, along with some PlayStation specific support have been recently announced, and we've got all the details you could possibly want - which includes the announcement that a demo for the game will be available.

The aptly named Ultimate Edition promises to be "the premier RTS on PS3", with everything in the PC version to be be included for PlayStation 3 owners. This includes (amongst the actual game content), sixty minutes of corny, b-grade live-action footage filled with more innuendo than is really appropriate, three factions vying for world domination, and a bunch of other content which will be "exclusive" to the PS3 version.

These tasty nuggets of information regarding the PlayStation 3 version of Red Alert 3 were revealed by David Seeholzer who is Senior Development Director on the title. Seeholzer has announced that the PlayStation Store "destination" for the game has now gone live, and includes some concept art, a theme featuring Natasha, and a trailer.


In a "couple of weeks", Seeholzer hopes to see the release of a demo - which will give gamers a chance to try the controls, and get a taste at the game on the console. In addition, plans for downloadable content were announced by Seeholzer:

We also have plans to release live DLC post ship through the PS Store as well. We strongly believe in product support especially after ship, and we have a team here dedicated to releasing new maps, missions, units, and other content for the PLAYSTATION 3. The team is hard at work on the first of what we hope will be many DLC packages for RA3: Ultimate Edition. This map pack, which should be available very close to our launch later this month, will feature 3 new skirmish maps for both offline and online play. The team here is dedicated to bringing you quality content on a regular cadence, so make sure to keep your eyes and ears open for future updates.

In a move that seems to be increasingly popular in the gaming world, following the release of the PlayStation 3 version of Red Alert 3 the developers will be online looking for opponents to defeat on the PlayStation network.
