Dante's Inferno - EA bids players to go to hell in new cinematic trailer
With any luck, the above headline should have at least amused the cynical gamer populations of the world. Last year, mega-publisher Electronic Arts announced that they were going to try some new things - starting with an influx of new intellectual properties for 2009.

One of these is the hellish Dante's Inferno - a new game from EA Redwood Shores, the studio that was responsible for the well received Dead Space. Today, Electronic Arts have released a new cinematic trailer from the title - which reveals demons, and other disturbing imagery in a manner that is somehow compelling and beautiful.

Dante's Inferno is based on The Divine Comedy, written by medieval poet Dante Alighieri, from which many academics believe the contemporary vision of hell originated. In Dante's Inferno, the player travels through the nine circles of hell, searching for their love, Beatrice.

With the poem comprised of three key components, Electronic Arts will focus Dante's Inferno on the first - which means that the game may see sequels in the future. No release date for the title has been announced, but it is anticipated that the game will be released on the PC, PlayStation 3, and the Xbox 360.
