Codemasters have released a new developer diary for their upcoming military simulator - Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. The new video shows off some of the features of the game engine - which is called "EGO".
Several developers explain the various strengths of the game engine (which is designed to scale across multiple processor cores), along with some commentary regarding the mission editor that will be included with the game for strategists and gamers alike to model military operations with ease.

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising will build on the strengths of the first title - and was originally set to be released... last year. The game will strive for realism, and will focus on combat from all perspectives - including the expected vehicles and infantry.
The EGO Engine that will be used in Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is the very same that powered Race Driver: GRID. With the studio to use its internal technology, a number of features will be added to the engine - including dynamic particle effects, "incredible vehicle detail" and a large open world.

Brant Nicholas, Senior Producer on the game explains:
In Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, players will fight the full force of the Chinese PLA on a large open-world island known as Skira. The game will be available for the Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3. No official release date for the title has yet been announced, but as we learn more, we'll keep you informed.

Everything that the EGO Engine does adds to the experience and tension of being in a serious conflict situation where one shot can kill. Using the engine’s rendering tech and customised audio systems, we can make players feel the danger and adrenaline rush of modern combat, immersing them in the battle as deeply as possible. The realism of the game and its artistic content goes along way towards that, but having tech driving the detail and effects will give players a real sense of what it’s like to have a 80mm mortar shell land 30ft away – it lifts the playing experience to a whole new level. Also - if you're wondering why you can't find this one on your wish lists - take note - Codemasters are dropping the "2" from the title, with the game to be known as Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.
