Command & Conquer Red Alert 3: Bye Bye Securom

| In these days of controversy, DRM, copy protection and all the kerfuffle that comes along with limited activations, it's nice to see - occasionally - someone bucking the trend. Enter Valve, via Steam. Today's update for RTS Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 sees a couple of very interesting changes that help to rectify something that should never have happened in the first place. In their own words: "This game was delivered with both Sony SecuROM and Steam digital rights management technology" - and this patch will remove the one that you don't need. The Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 update announcement in its entirety: This game was delivered with both Sony SecuROM and Steam digital rights management technology. This patch will remove the SecuROM technology from the game as well as remove the game-specific SecuROM license from your machine. The game will continue to be protected by Steam technology. To remove SecuROM files from your machine and for more information, see the EA support site.As always, to get this patch, it's a simple matter of restarting your Steam client, and off you go.
