While other franchises are running away from World War II scenarios, there is one title who knows which side their bread is buttered. They've dabbled in other conflicts, but it seems they've come back to what is familiar and comfortable - and I'd like to introduce Battlefield: 1943, from DICE and Electronic Arts.
Due out by the end of the year through the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade and a downloadable PC version, you can take to the Pacific theatre of war either as the US Marines or the Imperial Japanese Navy as you battle through maps set in Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal and the classic Wake Island. We have the very first trailer for the game, which should give you an idea of what's in store.

Karl Magnus Troedsson, Executive Producer Battlefield Franchise at DICE explains:
While details are still slim for Battlefield: 1943, you can rest assured that we'll find out plenty more about this upcoming title as its release date draws closer. Meanwhile, let us know what you think - does the WWII conflict need another game, or should DICE start looking further afield?

“Battlefield 1943 is a new take on a blast from the past classic coming to life with brand new technology that we’re eager to get into players hands.”Gain ranks and awards as you play with up to 24-person multiplayer in this fully-featured online shooter that promises to revisit the unique Battlefield sandbox experience, complete with through-the-gun and vehicle warfare that DICE is best recognised for. Choose to play as a trench-crawling rifleman, an ace fighter pilot, or a steel-fisted tank commander as you fight from the land, the sea and the air - unleashing tanks, fighter planes launched from aircraft carriers and even coordinated bombing raids on your unsuspecting enemies - and watch as the beautiful Pacific Islands turn into scarred battlefields at the hands of you and your fellow soldiers.
