Dystopia to soon cybernetically upgrade to 1.2

The guys behind the Half-Life 2 mod, Dystopia have announced that they intend to soon release version 1.2 of the cyberpunk mod. With plans for Steamworks support, the squashing of many bugs, and a visual overhaul, and a whole lot more, the mod will be completely overhauled and revitalised with the release of 1.2.

While there's no exact date for the release, a member of the development team assures us it's "amazing", and will be out "very" soon - with gamers able to download the 1.2 version of the mod directly through their Steam client when it is released. In the interim, we've got a nice fact sheet to share with you - which outlines the major changes that have been made.

For the uninitiated, Dystopia centers upon a conflict between two rival factions - the Punk Mercenaries, and the Corporate Security Forces. Players choose a side, and then attempt to complete objectives whilst the other side opposes them. Combat takes place in both the real world, and also within cyberspace. Time limits for completing objectives adds a greater challenge and urgency to the gameplay. In addition, gamers have the choice between a number of different classes, and can choose a number of cybernetic implants which give them a number of advantages.

The list of changes for version 1.2 of the mod is as follows:
Three New Maps"
  • Injection - Fight for control of one of the area's largest arcologies
  • Exodus - Right what is wrong in a diminishing abandon
  • Cybernetic - Break into a cult's collective for a dangerous resuce
Many additions and new looks for previous favourites:
  • Vaccine - Fight to destroy a corporate super virus
  • Assemble - A weapons factory's data cloaked in an unlikely place
  • Detonate - Close the books on the mercenary operation
  • Broadcast - Eliminate an underground radio server
  • Undermine - Shut down a corporate mining operation
  • Silo - Your contractee has different plans for this dormant missile
  • Fortress - Siege corporate stronghold to destroy important data
New Features Including:
  • New in-game aesthetic look
  • Spawn timer
  • In-game music
  • Changes to weapons like Basilisk, Rocket Launcher and Dual Pistols
  • Improved implants such as Wired Reflexes, IFF Info and Cold Suit
  • New Statistics System
  • Improved scoreboard information
On top of all that, more than 180 bugs have been fixed. So, if you're up for a little bit of cyberpunk gaming action, and are already cringing at the direction which Deus Ex 3, it looks as though Dystopia could fill a void in your life when the new version releases "soon".
