New Logitech gaming hardware range unveiled

Logitech have started this year on a positive note, with success in the CES awards, along with the announcement of a shiny new product line to be released in April and march for PC gamers. This includes the rumoured G19 Gaming Keyboard, a refreshed G9 mouse in the form of the G9x, and the G35 Surround Sound Headset.

The Logitech G13 Advanced Game Board took home the title of "Best of Innovations in Electronic Gaming, at the 2009 CES, which is often described as the "E3 of hardware events". We've got details on the new G19 Gaming Keyboard, and the rest of the product range.

The new G19 will feature a small, tilt-able colour LCD with a resolution of 320x240 and will be compatible with over sixty games, with World of Warcraft the only title mentioned at this time. The screen will be fully programmable (much like that appearing on the G15), and will also be able to display photo content and videos. The ability to switch between applications on the panel will also be sustained.

The G19 will sport 12 "fully programmable" G-keys, and three modes for each, allowing for a total of 36 macros. "Multi-key input" is also incorporated, allowing up to five keys to be used at the same time. All of the G19's features will be fully accessible on both the PC and the Mac, along with a public SDK to allow users to develop their own applications for the keyboard. The SDK, along with the keyboard itself is expected to be available in Europe and the U.S. in March of 2009, and has a suggested retail price of US$199.99.

The new Logitech G9x Laser Mouse refreshes the functionality of the G9, with an optical range of 200 to 5000 dpi, which is selectable on the fly. The revised mouse will also feature two changeable "snap-on" grips that allow for two different types of ergonomic configuration.

The mouse features what are now considered stables of the mouse market - adjustable weights, internal memories, a number of software profiles and custom colour LEDs, which will be selectable, much like the G19 and G13. The mouse will carry a suggested price of US$99.99, and will be available in April in the United States and Europe.

Moving on now to Logitech G35 Surround Sound Headset, which is the company's latest entry into the headset market. The G35 offers full 7.1 support in order to allow positional audio. The headset is able to "simulate" the acoustics of a listening room, which reproduces an "outside-the-head sound field". The headphone is closed, reducing external noise.

The headset is completed with the inclusion of an integrated headset, which comes complete with software allowing real-time voice morphing. The software can be controlled in Ventrilo or Teamspeak using three G-keys that are situated on the left earpiece. This includes "on ear" controls that allow the user to mute the microphone, make surround sound adjustments, and adjust volume.

To ensure comfort across a range of different physiques, the headset will ship with three adjustable headbands for users to find their ideal level of comfort. Sound processing support for Dolby Pro Logic II is also included, along with Dolby headphone technology for "expanded stereo sound". The headset will be available in March for a suggested retail of US$129.99.

The G35 Headset was an awarded an honoree in Electronic Gaming, whilst Logitech also won "Best of Innovations in Home Entertainment Accessories" for the Logitech Harmony 1100 Advanced Universal Remote.

There is no word on a local release date or indeed local pricing for these products, but they likely to land in Australia at some point this year. It will be interesting to see how gamers react to these once they actually have them in their hands, and what the competition inevitably releases.
