EVE Online - 45,000 gamers take on space at once

The new Peak Concurrent User record (45,186 gamers, to be precise) comes five years into the game's history, and follows several 'tremendous' serverside changes to the EVE infrastructure.
From their website:
While we've made tremendous serverside changes in the EVE Online infrastructure with the EVE64 and StacklessIO initiatives, it is truly a testament to our loyal fans that 5 years into EVE's existence we are still breaking records and more people are flying in New Eden than ever before.
We know we'll be trying to find leftover champagne from New Year's EVE to celebrate. When we do, we'll toast to you!

The latest expansion for EVE Online, Quantum Rise, was launched in November, you can check out the launch trailer to see what it's all about, or join the throng with the latest game client, subscription is US$14.95/mo, but there are often free trials around the place.
