Despite any rampant loyalty amongst the fan bases of either consoles, Sony does have one trick up its sleeve - the Second Life-inspired online service - Home, which recently saw an influx of beta invitations released. Following this, it has been reported that the full service could launch as early as the 17th of December.
This news comes by way of London tabloid, The Times, which without crediting a source notes that the online service "is slated for release in the next 10 days". Whether or not this is true has not been confirmed, but the writer of the article notes that the move could be seen as a response to the recent launch of the new Xbox LIVE Online Experience.
Sony's online virtual world, Home, will allow gamers to create an avatar and communicate with other gamers whilst participating in a number of mini-games, virtual dancing, and a number of other virtual interactions. Home will also include advertising for various products, in addition with the ability to show off one's trophy collection in their very own apartment, along with access to virtual stores.
We have contacted Sony regarding any official release date for Home matter and are awaiting a response.
